Tesla: Now comes the Model Y all-wheel drive SUV

STRONG ANNOUNCEMENT It is set to become the brand's most built model: The Model Y, which Elon Musk unveiled. The auto guru expects to build more units of the Y than of the Model S, Model X and Model 3 combined. To achieve this, the Californians have focused on the growing mid-size SUV market. Five or [...]

Model Y
At first glance, the Tesla Model Y only looks like a raised Model 3, but that is deceptive.

To achieve this, the Californians have focused on the growing market for mid-sized SUVs. Five or seven seats, optional all-wheel drive, all-electric drive: This recipe should make the Model Y a global sales hit.

Production from 2022 also in Europe
The new Tesla is to be 192 km/h fast in its entry-level rear-wheel drive variant and sprint from zero to 100 km/h in around six seconds; this version is to be built in Europe from the beginning of 2022. All other variants, which are also available with all-wheel drive, are to be built in the USA from the end of 2020 and in Europe and China from the beginning of 2021.
This includes the "Long Range" version, also rear-wheel drive, which marches 209 km/h, sprints to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and is said to travel 540 kilometers on one battery charge.

Many similarities with the Model 3
At first glance, the Tesla Model Y only looks like a raised Model 3, but in reality the body is independent - with an A-pillar set further forward, other door cutouts and plastic applications to conceal the considerable height. Instead of the small trunk hatch of the Model 3, there is even a real tailgate.
But because elements like the headlights and taillights are in the same design as the Model 3, the Model Y does not look particularly original. The interior is largely identical to that of the Model 3, but Tesla wants to offer a third row of seats here.

Prices start at about 60 000 francs
Prices for the rear-wheel-drive long-range variant start at around 60,000 Swiss francs, the all-wheel-drive version costs around 65,000 Swiss francs and the performance variant will cost almost a hefty 75,000 Swiss francs. Deliveries in Europe will start in two years at the earliest. Typical Tesla: For 2500 francs, depending on the daily exchange rate, you can already secure your car.
