The top model in the third generation of the Mégane series also delivers what its brawny looks promise. Weighing a good 1400 kilograms, the front-wheel-drive model delivers 390 Nm of torque and accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. Thanks to the standard 4Control rear axle, the R.S. can be steered precisely through tight corners. A world premiere in this class.
Two chassis variants are available
Two chassis variants are available for the new Mégane R.S.: Sport and Cup. The Sport suspension offers greater efficiency in everyday driving and, on top of that, greater versatility. New shock absorbers and electronic torque distribution are used. These measures are designed to counteract understeer and optimize traction on corner exit. The Cup chassis is primarily designed for use on the race track.
Comfort, Sport and Race as required
The new Mégane R.S. is powered by a new 1.8-liter turbo gasoline engine with 280 hp available at 6000 rpm. In addition to the 6-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (EDC) is also offered (costs an extra CHF 1700). There are four configurations to choose from for tuning the engine and transmission with the EDC: Comfort and Normal (focus on comfort), Sport (shortened shift times) and Race (even shorter shift times). The 300-hp Trophy version will be available at the end of the year.
