Suzuki Cup: Decision only in Ambri

EGGENBERGER BEFORE MUZZARELLI With his second victory of the season in the Drognens Slalom, Fabian Eggenberger retains the theoretical chance of winning the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup championship. Three months after the last slalom before the summer break (Chamblon), Fabian Eggenberger doubled up with the second victory in the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup on Saturday over midday. The Zurich native was fastest in both practice and race runs at the Drognens armory. Thus, the decision on the championship title is postponed for two weeks.

The title is within reach
The still superior leader of the standings, Marcel Muzzarelli, scored a second place for the fourth time - in addition to three wins - in the penultimate race. After a clean first run, which he finished in the fourth fastest time, Muzzarelli took a bit more risks in the second run, pushing Simeon Schneider into third place. His lead over Eggenberger (16 points) and Schneider (18) is reassuring, but with 20 points still up for grabs, he could theoretically still be caught by them in the Ambri slalom on October 5. In principle, however, only an unlikely retirement of Marcel Muzzarelli or the absence with simultaneous victory of one or the other chaser can thwart his deserved title win.

They were the fastest on Saturday in beautiful late summer weather in Romont (from left): Marcel Muzzarelli (2nd), winner Fabian Eggenberger and Simeon Schneider (3rd). They also make the podium places in the championship among themselves.
