Slalom Frauenfeld: A victory for the sport

EGLI TO THE SIXTH As the first Swiss organizer since October 2019, the ACS Thurgau again held a National Automobile Slalom - but unfortunately only as a "ghost race". The joy was visible to all participants who went to the start of the first National Automobile Slalom in more than two years on the Grosse Allmend in Frauenfeld. The winner was thus generally racing.

Perfect ghost race
The only drop of bitterness: Due to the situation, which had been uncertain for a long time, spectators were excluded from the event this year. This decision in principle had already been taken for some time for safety reasons and for the purpose of better budget planning.

Otherwise, the 21st Frauenfeld Auto Race Days went absolutely perfectly in the best possible external conditions. Apart from technical defects and harmless spins, there were no incidents.

The relief of the race director and his large staff of helpers was correspondingly great.

Alex Maag: "It is an overwhelming feeling to have held a race again after such a long time, which was also absolutely accident-free and ended exactly on schedule. Of course, it was a special event without spectators and track announcers, but instead we were able to concentrate entirely on racing."

Joel Burgermeister already moved the 300-plus horsepower Tatuus F4 quite briskly - but there's more to come from him.

Egli won three-way battle for day's victory
Philip Egli already announced his ambitions for the day's victory with his best time in practice. On the 3.2-kilometer course with 49 gates, which was previously only used in 2014 to 2016, the man from Glarus in his optimal Dallara-EPR-4 improved his own track record by almost five seconds with a time of 2:00.92 already in the first race run.

Because he almost touched a pylon, Egli was a bit more cautious in the second run, but still set himself a new best time.

Philip Egli: "In the second run I actually drove a bit nicer than in the first, but took away a bit too much speed in two places. Now I'm going to set myself the first time under two minutes for next year."

First exclamation mark from Burgermeister
Second place overall went to Joel Burgermeister. The Thurgau native was beaten by just 1.5 seconds in the race debut of his newly acquired Tatuus F4 with specially developed 1170-cubic turbo racing engine from Italy.

The top 3 of Frauenfeld 2021: Joel Burgermeister, Philip Egli and Marcel Maurer.

In the future, he wants to drive mainly on hills and win in the two-liter class. This was also Marcel Maurer's intention in Frauenfeld, but inexplicable gearbox problems in the Tatuus-Renault thwarted absolute top times near Egli. Even so, it was enough for third place overall.

Jannis Jeremias achieved a respectable fourth place in the daily standings. With the Tatuus F4, the Biel resident competed in his first national car race and already set amazing running times on the track!

He clearly left Markus Bosshard in the new Dallara GP3 with front and rear wing as well as halo from a Sauber F1 (it was not supposed to be more than a satisfactory function test anyway) behind in the race cars up to three liters or turbos over 1170 cubic.

Darani in a class of his own
Fastest touring car driver was Christian Darani from Ticino in the really fast Fiat X1/9. The first and only faultless run was enough for him.

Not even the former E1 winner Simon Wüthrich in a good 550 hp VW Golf Turbo 4WD or Bruno Ianniello in a Lancia Delta S4, who was only just beaten by the Bernese, had a stab.

Meanwhile, Martin Bürki in the VW Polo dominated the E1-1600 class as usual. If Darani and Bürki continue to win like this, the advantage in the championship will lie with the southern Swiss due to the strength of the class.

Christian Darani has matured into a potential slalom champion. The box office strength in the E1-2000 speaks for him.

Home victory for Zwahlen
Christoph Zwahlen won his home race for the first time with the Porsche GT3 Cup from the Interswiss group. In the IS two-liter class, Jürg Ochsner in the Opel Kadett beat local hero Manuel Santonastaso in the BMW by a tenth of a second despite a time-consuming driving error in the second heat.

In the Renault Classic Cup, Thomas Zürcher (Clio III RS) and Denis Wolf (Clio IV RS) took the two class wins.

Denis Wolf was the fastest in the Renault Classic Cup with the Clio IV.
