Motorsport: Second stage win for Marcel Maurer

In changeable weather conditions, Marcel Maurer celebrated his second day's victory in the slalom championship in Saanen. In the touring cars, there was a new overall winner in Stephan Burri. With Philip Egli, Marcel Maurer and Jean-François Chariatte, only three representatives from Group 2 of the racing sports cars turned up for the third slalom championship round on the 2.766-kilometer airfield vibrating track of Saanen [...]

Now everything fits together: After Bière, Marcel Maurer now also won in the rain at Saanen with his Formula Renault Midland.

With Philip Egli, Marcel Maurer and Jean-François Chariatte, only three representatives from Group 2 of the racing sports cars turned up for the third slalom championship round on the 2.766-kilometer airfield vibrating track of Saanen. In the still dry practice Marcel Maurer with his Formula Renault Midland was 77 hundredths ahead of Philip Egli in the Dallara-Opel F3. On a wet track, Marcel Maurer was able to distance his rival by six tenths in the decisive second race run.

"The track in Saanen suits me, and I also like driving in the rain. The win in Bière gave me confidence. The car, team and driver are now a perfect match," said the Bernese, who was delighted with his second national stage win. Philip Egli, who had been victorious in Frauenfeld and Interlaken, drove too cautiously in the first run because of the fogged visor and attacked spiritedly in the second run before he had to abort it because the track was dirty. The Zurich skier then did not manage the run repetition so well.

Fastest touring car driver: Stephan Burri made the most of his opportunity and realized the third-fastest overall time on a dry track.

Martin Bürki and Danny Krieg remain at the top
Only the drivers with production-based cars and the InterSwiss group found a dry track in both runs. After making a goal mistake in the first attempt, Stephan Burri shone with his new 1600 Polo in the second run with the best time, which could not be beaten by any touring car driver due to the rain that started later. Martin Bürki (VW Polo 1600) and Danny Krieg (Audi A4 STW) did not let themselves be rattled on the wet track and scored full points with class victories in Group E1. Thus, after four races, they continue to lead the slalom championship together ahead of Marcel Maurer, who is now lurking alone in third place.
