The FIA has been increasingly promoting women in motorsport in recent years. Manuela Gostner, Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting (from left, photo Kessel Racing) are now also benefiting from this.

The most interesting Swiss entry in this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans comes from Ticino. Kessel Racing is fielding two Ferrari 488 GT3s. As AutoSprintCH already suspected, the three ladies Rahel Frey from Aedermannsdorf, Michelle Gatting (DK) and Manuela Gostner (I) will start with number 83.

They will otherwise contest the 2019 European Le Mans Series and fight for a top result at Le Mans in the 18-car GT-LM-Am category, in which only one professional per team is allowed to provide driving support.

The last time an all-female team competed at Le Mans was in 2010, when the Swiss drivers Cindy Allemann, Rahel Frey and Natacha Gachnang were competing in a Ford GT from Matech Racing. Ronnie Kess

With Buemi, Jani and Fässler
The 24 Hours of Le Mans in June will mark the end of the 2018/19 World Endurance Championship (WEC) SuperSeason. The organizing Automobile Club de l'Ouest (A.C.O.) received 75 dossiers for registration and selected 60 participants plus ten reserve teams from them. Priority was given to teams registered in the WEC and those invited on the basis of their success in other championships.

For the second time in a season, the 24 Hours of Le Mans will count towards the World Championship, in 2019 as a super-final.

Victory will again be decided between the two Toyota TS050 Hybrids. Defending champions are the world championship leaders Sébastien Buemi, Fernando Alonso and Kazuki Nakajima. In the LMP1 class, six more privately entered sports prototypes will join the field, including the two Rebellions. Unlike in June 2018, Neel Jani will be the only Swiss "Rebel" after Mathias Beche - as reported - has to vacate his seat.

In LMP2, where Jonathan Hirschi (2nd) and Hugo de Sadeleer (3rd) achieved podium finishes a year ago, there is no Swiss on the start list so far. Marcel Fässler is making another attempt with Corvette Racing to win the biggest endurance race in the GT class of the factory teams.
