Karting DM: Born and Ferati make people sit up and take notice 🎥

ATTENTION SUCCESS Miklas Born from Basel climbed onto the podium in third place at the German Kart Championship (DKM) in Wackersdorf. This was narrowly missed by Jasin Ferati in the electric karts. Except for two favorites, Miklas Born left all opponents behind in the first final race. No other Swiss athlete has ever achieved this in the DKM.

Miklas Born claimed his first podium finish at a major international race last weekend at the second meeting of the strongly contested German Kart Championship (DKM), which is contested with karts in the OK-Senior class. At the start in Wackersdorf were 49 drivers from all over Europe, including the current world champion Lorenzo Travisonutto.

Only two successful internationals before the Swiss
The 17-year-old from Basel already announced his ambitions for the podium in the time trials with sixth place. As second in the first and ninth in the second heat, Born secured sixth place on the grid for the first final round at the wheel of the Exprit Vortex kart.

Born's video from the first practice session shows what the course at Wackersdorf's ProKart Raceland looks like from the driver's perspective:

In a spirited race over 21 laps on the 1190-meter track, Born advanced to third place in the final 1. When the checkered flag fell, only last year's German runner-up Hugo Sasse and Travisonutto were ahead of him.

In the second race Born went out empty because of carburetor problems with place 21. In the DKM he occupies the twelfth intermediate rank with only one contested race!

Extended podium in Wackersdorf: After the first final run, Miklas Born placed third and first Swiss on it.

New chapter for Jasin Ferati
Quiet sounds were made by Jasin Ferati. This year, the 15-year-old from Winterthur is taking part in the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) on identical SODI Rotax karts, which is sponsored by the FIA and Porsche, among others.

In both pre-final and final races, Ferati caused a stir with the fastest race lap of the twelve drivers from seven nations. Nevertheless, the only Swiss had to settle for a thankless fourth place twice.

On the first day of racing, that was a success because he had moved up from ninth position in difficult conditions. On the second, it was a bitter disappointment because he had finished second, just six hundredths of a second behind Berlin favorite Luka Wlömer, but, like the latter, found himself demoted by a five-second penalty due to an incorrect front spoiler position.

Everything is possible
Despite this mishap - a parallel to the first pre-final - Ferati is doing well in the championship. After two of ten final races, the Swiss rookie is fifth, just 13 points behind second-placed German Joël Sturm. Only last year's third-placed Wlömer, who won the first race in commanding fashion from pole position, has pulled away somewhat.

Jasin Ferati: "But that doesn't mean anything yet. In this series, anything is possible with a bit of luck. The switch to the more advanced electric karts is not easy, but these cars are a lot of fun and offer good overtaking opportunities."
