An acoustic and visual treat: Christoph Lampert's rides in TracKing, filmed by Stefan Brodnig from Austria Racing Pics Vorarlberg.

Around 200 participants, some of whom started in two different classes on the same day as is usual in this race series, were welcomed by the Renn & Rally Club Vorarlberg to its 6th Int. Berg-Kleinslalom in idyllic Stuben am Arlberg. Secret star, but without any airs and graces, was local hero Christoph Lampert.

Guest launch as a friendly service
Almost two years after his last start in the Osella FA30, with which he finished third in the European Hillclimb Championship in 2019, the Vorarlberg native, who is also well known from entries in Swiss hillclimbs, took his seat in the TracKing Suzuki from Helmi Motorsport.

Because Lampert had already helped the Zurich team in the past with the chassis work and tuning of its race cars, the garage owner from Feldkirch was given the car for his home race. A model that Lampert notably drove before his move to the three-liter race car class.

In picturesque surroundings, Christoph Lampert had all his race car colleagues under control on Saturday.

Wages for winter work
But four years later, Lampert also needed some time to get used to the race. At least the day's victory on Friday, the third round of the Int. Vorarlberger Drytech Race Cup 2021, stayed in the family.

Andreas Helm, otherwise driving the 1000 cubic Mercedes silhouette racer, for once took over his brother Michael's Tatuus F4 Evo, which had been extensively modified over the winter and now produces around 280 hp.

The premiere worked out perfectly with the clear win of the day, whereby he was superior to the overall runner-up Christoph Lampert and the other race car drivers in terms of torque on the winding track.

Marcel Maurer, who had won the two season-opening races in Damüls in June with his Tatuus-Renault, was not at the start this time, just like Philip Egli.

The second day victory remained in the team
In the fourth championship race, which was held in the best conditions as the day before for the two fields from the afternoon, Helm experimented with a different brand of tires. However, the Tatuu's handling was no longer as good.

So Lampert took the day's victory by adding up the three best of four runs on the 1500-meter track, which was only defused with pylons in the initial phase.

Behind touring car winner Stefan Hetzenauer from Tyrol in a powerful E1 Subaru and the German Michael Bodenmüller in an Opel Kadett C, Andreas Helm, once again the fastest of the large Swiss delegation, had to settle for fourth place - but he could live with that considering Lampert's victory.

The Swiss slaloms, starting next Sunday with Frauenfeld, will be contested by the younger of the two Helm brothers again with the usual TracKing, while Michael will not solve an ASS license this year and will help out with the missions instead.

Variety in the Lotus Cup
Second fastest Swiss on Friday was Christoph Zwahlen in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. However, the class win in the H+2000 was snatched away from him by Hubert Ganath from Vorarlberg in a Cayman GT4, who is always fast at his home races. On Saturday, Zwahlen, unlike other TW/GT drivers, was unable to improve.

In the Lotus Cup Suisse, Daniel Strim took victory in the Competition class on a rain-soaked track on Friday morning, and championship leader Hermann Bollhalder (both Exige Cup 430) returned the favor on Saturday. In the Production class, Roberto Zürcher won both races ahead of Edy Kobelt.

Vanessa prevails in the wet
Rain also came in handy for Vanessa Zenklusen on Friday morning. The Valais native was thus able to demonstrate the potential of her self-modified Subaru Impreza 4WD (Report from the presentation) and celebrate her first win of the season in the separate class of the Rennclub Untertoggenburg.

With starts at the RRCV Vanessa Zenklusen prepared herself with her Subaru for the remaining Swiss Slaloms and the hill climb Oberhallau from the end of August. Behind the Subaru with Saturday winner Dani Buser.

In the dry Dani Buser in the Subaru Impreza took revenge for his retirement on Friday with a narrow victory over Manuel Santonastasto in the BMW 320 E21 and Vanessa Zenklusen.

Late championship honors for Beat Oertig
At the end of the perfectly organized event, the championship ceremony of 2020, which had been postponed due to corona, was made up for. As already reported, Beat Oertig took the biggest trophy and the prize money with loud victories at the wheel of his Peugeot 106 Maxi in the E1-1600 class.
