While it was still dry and cool at the start with the Corso through Arosa on Thursday, the participants found difficult conditions in the wet on Friday and Saturday. The first race run even had to be interrupted and then cancelled due to an oil slick caused by gearbox damage.

Formula 2 duel for the day's victory
The overall classification in the Competition group, which started on best time, was thus based on the two fastest times from three race runs. As the weather was more merciful on Sunday, practically all drivers achieved their best time in the second run on dry track.

This was also the case for Thomas Amweg, who completed the 7.3 km route from Langwies to Arosa in a Martini Mk50 BMW from the legendary Formula 2 in 4'19.63 minutes and thus remained just above the course record.

In the third and final race, his direct opponent Roger Moser from Arosa was almost four seconds faster than the Aargauer in his Martini-BMW Mk28 F2 in the pouring rain.

However, Amweg won the day in total, 4.25 seconds ahead of the local hero. For the son of the former mountain king Fredy Amweg it is the third day victory after 2016 and 2017.

They settled the day's victory between themselves: Roger Moser (l.) and Thomas Amweg.

Third overall and winner of the Competition class for touring cars, GT and sports cars was Marcel Hayoz in a Lotus 23 prototype in 10'50.77. Just 1.54 seconds behind, Marco Brunner was the fastest GT driver in second place in a Ford Mustang.

Precision brings success
In the Arosa Sport Trophy, Andreas Portmann won with a Lancia Delta HF integrale with a difference of only 63 hundredths in his two fastest runs. In the Arosa Classic Trophy, Bart den Hartog with his Alfa Romeo GT1300 Junior was even off by only 13 hundredths.

Although the beautiful late summer weather had said goodbye to the three days of racing, the organizers expressed their satisfaction.

Ueli Schneiter, race director: "Of course it is a pity that we had bad luck with the weather again this year. Nevertheless, the event was a great success. We are happy about the numerous compliments from drivers and guests who enjoyed the mountain race despite the rainy weather."

In Arosa, not only bears feel at home in any weather, but also full-throttle animals on four wheels...

Next year the same weekend
More than 400 volunteers supported the OC during the event. And despite the cold and wet weather, around 10,000 spectators followed the action.

The 15th Arosa ClassicCar will take place from August 29 to September 1, 2019.
