Volkswagen: From diesel to pure electric vehicle

With the T7 Multivan and ID.Buzz, Volkswagen has moved the bus even closer to passenger vans for private customers. However, other priorities apply to trade and commerce, which is why the T6.1 remains in the program - but no longer as an e-transporter. In general, however, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly interesting for companies. That is why ABT e-Line GmbH is now coming into play with a new idea: the conversion of existing vehicles to battery-electric drive. The price for the conversion kit is 19,900 euros, installation and registration another around 4,000 euros.

Various basic models on offer

This means that almost all models can be converted - regardless of whether they have a long or short wheelbase, a high roof or not, flatbed models or chassis with special bodies. The base vehicle only has to be a diesel with DSG. The key technical data correspond to those of the ABT e-Transporter 6.1, whose range is between 105 and 138 kilometers - depending on the body and weight.

The peak power of the drive is 83 kW, the maximum torque 200 Nm. In conjunction with the maximum speed limited to 90 km/h, optionally 120 km/h, this results in economical consumption. The full charging time is around 5.5 hours at a 7.2 kW wallbox, and at a 50 kW fast charging station this is achieved in around 45 minutes to 80 percent.

Special superstructures as required

The conversion is particularly interesting for vehicles with expensive conversions or superstructures such as refuse trucks (center gallery), dump trucks, refrigerated trucks or cherry pickers. For models that need a replacement engine anyway due to a defect, the decision to convert to e-drive can also be an easy one. Or, of course, if the ID.Buzz Cargo is too small or not versatile enough.
