The GR Super Sport impressively demonstrates the transfer from motorsport to the road. Toyota Gazoo Racing supports the company's goal of building ever better cars by allowing racing and production vehicles to benefit from each other.

Le Mans winning car as inspiration
The success achieved with the Toyota TS050 Hybrid in the LMP1 Hybrid category was the inspiration for the GR Super Sport - a hypercar with race car pedigree and performance.

The demonstration drive was completed by former GP driver and Le Mans winner Alex Wurz.

Alex Wurz: "It was an honor to drive this development version of the GR Super Sport in public for the first time, especially on a race track like Le Mans, which is so closely associated with this car. The GR Super Sport was born at Le Mans so this feels like a homecoming."

Just a small foretaste
The Austrian was also active in the WEC for Toyota Gazoo Racing. After the public premiere, he revealed his impression of the Japanese hypercar.

Alex Wurz: "I can't push the limits on a demonstration lap yet, but I could already feel the incredible potential. There are clear similarities between the GR Super Sport and the TS050 Hybrid in terms of performance, especially the all-wheel drive and hybrid system. But the engineers felt that this was just a small taste of the GR Super Sport's true performance. So I'm really looking forward to driving it again in the near future."

Music of the future
From 2021, hypercars will be eligible to compete in Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship alongside other new categories. These will be based on supercars for the road or track days. Otherwise, street-legal hypercars will be derived from race cars.
