Renault: Now the Trafic is also available as a Stromer 🎥

COMPLETE The Trafic E-Tech Electric completes Renault's range of all-electric utility vehicles. It does so with the same charging options as the combustion versions and a good 300 kilometers of range.

From 2021 to 2022, the mid-size electric van market grew by 56 percent and of all electric vans, they account for 47 percent. As with its electric sister models, the Kangoo Van E-Tech 100% electric and the Master E-Tech 100% electric, the Trafic E-Tech Electric has been designed to meet the same requirements as the internal combustion engine model, with comprehensive equipment and load capacity.

Renault completes the electrification of its van series with the Trafic E-Tech 100% electric.

Panel van first in two versions

At market launch, the electric van will be available as a panel van in the L2H1 and L2H2 variants with a length of 5.5 meters and heights of 2.0 and 2.5 meters respectively. In addition, there will be the crew cab and the platform chassis in L2H1 dimensions. At a later date, the L1H1 panel van and crew cab with a length of 5.1 meters will complete the range.

Depending on the version, the stowage volume is 5.8 to 8.9 cubic meters. With a crew cab, it is 3.3 or 4.3 cubic meters, depending on the length variant. The maximum loading length extends up to 4.15 meters in the L2 long version with the through-loading flap in the partition wall for particularly long cargo.

Efficient e-drive from the Group shelf

Propulsion is provided by the same 90 kW (122 hp) synchronous engine as in the Kangoo. It can handle towing loads of up to 920 kilograms and (in the panel van) a payload of up to 1185 kilograms.

The flat, 315-kilogram 52-kWh battery is located under the cargo area floor, so that the cargo space is available without restriction. It is the same battery already used in the electric Renault Master and Zoe models. The WLTP range of up to 322 km for the (optional) 90 km/h speed-limited version meets the mobility needs of most customers in urban and peri-urban delivery services. The standard version accelerates to a maximum of 110 km/h and travels up to 297 km.

DC charging system comes later

A 3.7 kW wallbox can charge the battery from ten to 100 percent of its maximum capacity in 17 hours. But anyone who has to cover a few kilometers a day needs at least an 11 kW charging station (ten to 100 percent in five hours 42 minutes) or even one with 22 kW, which can charge from 15 to 80 percent in one hour 24 minutes. Because the battery is air-cooled and not liquid-cooled, the DC charging system, which will be available at a later date, will be able to accommodate a maximum of 50 kW. While that sounds limiting, Renault says research shows that in Europe, 87 percent of all daily trips are less than 60 kilometers.

245 Newton meters and powerful acceleration

During our test drives, the test vehicle loaded with 300 kilograms showed no weaknesses. The drive system was ready immediately after pressing the start button. The torque of 245 Newton meters ensured a powerful start. The electric Trafic accelerated smoothly and without jerking. What's more, with a gross vehicle weight of 3070 kg, the vehicle never felt heavy or sluggish. The chassis engineers did a good job here.

The recuperation is clearly noticeable

Two driving modes are available: Additional range can be gained by activating Eco mode, which reduces engine output to 60 kW (82 hp). Eco mode is automatically deactivated during heavy acceleration. The recuperation, which is fixed and optimized for payload, is clearly noticeable but always allows coasting. To save energy and gain range, the cabin can be preheated or precooled via a preheat function as long as the vehicle is connected to the charging station.

Modern driving assistants include blind spot warning, high beam assist, full LED headlights, and light and rain sensors. In addition, there are details specially designed for commercial vehicles such as the load-dependent Electronic Stability Program with Hill Start Assist and Brake Assist.
