Kia: No matter whether filling station or charging station 🎥

HEV, PHEV OR BEV For the new edition of the Niro compact crossover SUV, Kia is again offering three differently electrified powertrains on a new platform. This will secure a large customer base worldwide in the future.

The Niro is an important model for Kia. With it, Kia put the brand on the electric track in Europe in 2016.

After a 2019 model update, generation two is now coming. On the universal new K3 platform, Kia offers three drive forms: a self-charging hybrid HEV, a plug-in hybrid PHEV and a battery electric model BEV (see gallery).

The new Niro can be recognized by the color-contrasting large Aero-C pillars, which are available in gray or black.

At the same time, the new underbody enables optimum use of interior space and a good basis for driving dynamics. With a length of 4.42 meters and a wheelbase of 2.72 meters, legroom and headroom have been increased on all five seats compared with the first generation.

The cargo volume with the rear seats folded down is between 1342 and 1445 liters, depending on the drive version.

Three levels of electrification on offer
In the base hybrid, the 1.6-liter gasoline engine and the electric motor deliver 104 kW (141 hp), and in the plug-in drive, 134 kW (183 hp) come together. Kia quotes fuel consumption figures of 4.7 l/100 km for the HEV and 1.0 l plus 14 kWh/100 km for the PHEV.

The plug-in hybrid can travel up to around 60 kilometers on pure electric power. The Niro EV achieves 460 WLTP kilometers. Its battery powers a 150 kW permanent magnet motor (204 hp) that accelerates the car from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.

The battery can be filled from 10 to 80 percent in 43 minutes at the fast charger. And thanks to Vehicle-to-Device Utility, the Niro EV can deliver up to 3 kW to external consumers or even small e-vehicles.

Two or four driving programs as desired
For driving in the HEV and PHEV, Kia provides the two driving programs Eco and Sport, for the BEV additionally Normal and Snow. The settings are made on a switch in the steering wheel.

The degree of regeneration in the BEV is either selected automatically based on the information from the front radar or set by the driver - up to i-pedal, single-pedal driving.

The hybrids are each available in the three equipment variants Niro, Power Edition and Style, at prices starting at 33,250 (HEV) and 38,950 Swiss francs (PHEV).

The Niro EV is available from 44,650 francs.
