Ford: Raptor also manages the very rough 🎥

PLACE DA Pick-ups don't have it quite as easy here in Germany as in other parts of the world. Nevertheless, Ford sold around 52,000 Ranger in Europe in 2018. That makes it the bestseller in its segment here. The Raptor is a good two meters wide with 28 centimeters of ground clearance and 85 centimeters of fording depth without mirrors. Now, [...]

With 28 centimeters of ground clearance and 85 centimeters of fording depth, the Raptor is a good two meters wide without mirrors.

Raptor
With the "Baja" setting, Ford's mighty Raptor offers driving fun of a very special kind.
Raptor
In the top version, the Raptor has leather seat covers, hitch and load compartment roller blind as standard.

Now the brand's performance department, which was established five years ago, is following up with the Ford Ranger Raptor. There's no American V8 under the hood, no V6, and not even an upgraded version of the 3.2-liter five-cylinder engine in the series.

A high-revving 213 hp and 500 newton meters
A four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel with a displacement of two liters will have to do - for ecological reasons.
It draws slightly more power and torque from a good third less displacement than the big 3.2-liter Ranger powertrain, which will soon fall victim to the Euro 6d emissions standard: a torquey 213 hp and 500 Newton meters keep the over 2.5-ton Raptor on its toes.

Design shows striking appearance
With its black grille in the style of the big F-150 Raptor and huge four brand letters, its lush front underride guard with the cheeky tow hooks peeking out and the black anodized aluminum running boards with roughened surface as well as the almost 17 centimeters wider track with attached fender flares, the Raptor shows powerful teeth and claws.

Stopping at a speed of 170 km/h
Acoustically, at least, no one has to miss a V8. In addition, there is a ten-speed automatic that shifts up or down as smoothly as it does quickly when the load changes. The bare figures: The standard sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes 10.6 seconds, and the speed is electronically stopped at 170 km/h. The "Sport" mode allows the driver to keep the asphalt at a constant speed. In "Sport" mode, the driver can still feel emotionally in good hands in everyday asphalt driving. And the suspension comfort and space in the rear give no cause for complaint.

Maximum off-road driving fun
One of the most important changes in the Raptor compared with the civilian versions remains hidden from view: the new heavy-duty chassis and the high-performance shock absorbers with bypass technology and 30 percent more suspension travel. Here Ford lays claim to real off-road competence for the top Ranger. In addition to "Normal," "Sport" and "Grass/Gravel/Snow," the Raptor has "Rock" and "Mud/Sand" 4×4 programs that adapt to the requirements of the terrain. But that's not all: no other off-roader offers a "Baja" setting for maximum off-road fun, with which the Ford literally sweeps over hard sand and flies over dunes. The Raptor costs 57,650 Swiss francs and is available to order now. The first vehicles will arrive in Switzerland in the summer.
