Audi: First appearance of the A6 Avant e-tron in Geneva 🎥

CAN IT BE A LITTLE SMALLER? So far, Audi has focused on specialties in the e-tron program. The focus has been on sports cars and bulky SUVs, but soon battery operation will also be available in conventional model series.

The A6 Avant is to be launched as an e-tron in 2024. The Ingolstadt-based company is now showing what the business liner will look like with a concept car that largely features the lines of the upcoming electric station wagon in the upper mid-size class.

A6 Avant e-Tron
In just under two years, the production model at the Geneva Motor Show is expected to herald the new era of high-performance electric vehicles.

Premium Platform Electric for E-models
The concept is based on the new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, which will also form the basis for the other electrically powered models from next year.

The A6 study is 4.96 meters long, 1.96 meters wide and 1.44 meters high. As usual, the four rings emphasize width, with the nose and flanks playing with abandon in the third dimension. The interplay of light and shadow gives the Avant Concept a pronounced dynamism.

Low drag coefficient of 0.24
The striking roof edge spoiler is a striking feature, which together with other measures such as a clad underbody and precisely calculated airflow guides and rear diffuser ensures a particularly low drag coefficient. It will be 0.24, 0.2 points below that of the previous aerodynamics champion Sportback.

The brand has already done very little to counter the airstream in the past. The Audi 100 was the record holder in the 1980s, and the futuristic aluminum A2 compact car scored points with a cw value of just 0.25.

Striking aluminum line on the edge of the roof
The long wheelbase allows the installation of a particularly powerful battery. An aluminum line at the edge of the roof also makes the A6 Avant look flatter than it actually is. Meanwhile, the study creates its individual appearance with the narrow LED headlights, whose daytime running lights will be individually adjustable.

Turning lights and roadway lights, which project the intended direction of travel of the vehicle in front of it on the ground, are intended to be an effective tool for pedestrian protection.

System works with a voltage of 800 volts
The Ingolstadt company chose the station wagon because it is the bestseller in the A6 series in many markets. Its electric drive concept provides for a total output of 270 kW (367 hp). The system operates at a voltage of 800 volts and can also be combined with all-wheel drive technology.

The lithium battery has a capacity of 100 kWh. The battery can be recharged at fast chargers in 20 minutes, during which time it goes from five to 80 percent of its storage capacity. At a 22 kW wallbox, it should be possible to refresh the capacity to 100 percent in less than eight hours.

However, the A6 is not fundamentally transforming into an electric vehicle. There will continue to be parallel offerings with classic combustion engines because the growth rates of electromobility do not reach such steep sales rates in all markets as they do in Switzerland.
