SM premiere: Three GP3-Dallara from Lyss

SWISS NOVUM Three Dallara GP3 race cars are being built for Swiss racing at Jenzer Motorsport and Egmo in Lyss. Yves Hängärtner and Markus Bosshard will soon bring one car each to the starting grid. The Dallara, which the Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda, sponsored by Red Bull and Honda, last drove (during testing before switching to the new F3 chassis, hence the livery), is ready for Yves Hängärtner.

After the end of the GP3 Series, which gave rise to the FIA Formula 3 with new Dallara race cars, Andreas Jenzer sat on several chassis from the Italian constructor. Now they are finding a new purpose. In collaboration with Egmo (Eggenberger Motorbau), a company adjacent to Jenzer Motorsport, three GP3 race cars modified for use in slaloms and hill climbs are being built in Lyss.

Downsized Renault turbocharged engines
Since in Switzerland and many other countries a limit of three liters applies to Group E2 racing sports cars, neither the original 3.4-liter naturally aspirated V6 engines (from 2016 to 2018) nor the previously used two-liter turbocharged Renault engines were eligible.

Egmo reworked the latter and reduced its displacement to 1760 cubic capacity. With the applicable factor of 1.7 for turbocharged engines, this then corresponds to three liters of displacement, from which well over 500 hp can be tickled. Egmo also took detailed care of the electronics, the circuitry and the wiring.

Downsized Renault turbocharged engines are installed in the rear of the GP3 chassis. Egmo also had to make a new wiring harness.

Premiere with Yves Hängärtner
The first Monoposto is ready for test drives. The buyer and driver is Yves Hängärtner. The man from Biel caused a sensation two or three years ago with his slalom victories in a Tatuus Formula Master. Now the long-time president of Ecurie Biennoise seized the opportunity to return to Swiss race tracks with a more modern and powerful Dallara GP3.

Yves Hängärtner: "This project immediately appealed to me. I think it's great how Egmo and Jenzer are cooperating and are hereby committed to Swiss racing. I'm excited to see what you can do with a car like this."

Slalom Frauenfeld or later?
For the time being, a standard turbocharger will be fitted for testing, which means around 280 to 300 hp. Soon, however, the full potential will be explored.

There is not enough time for the Interlaken slalom, so Hängärtner's racing debut is planned for the Auto-Renntage Frauenfeld on April 26. Due to the Corona virus, however, both events are in doubt.

Yves Hängärtner: "I want to see where I stand and then decide which further races I will contest. A full season is not in the cards yet. Actually, I wanted to limit myself to slaloms, but I might also do one or two hill climbs, for example in Reitnau.

Yves Hängärtner between Philip Egli and Marcel Maurer, with whom he has already racked up several slalom stage victories. Now he is challenging them with a new car.

Second car to Markus Bosshard
In total, Jenzer prepares three identical Dallara GP3s. A second car goes to Markus Bosshard. The man from eastern Switzerland gained his first experience with a potent race car three years ago with the Reynard F3000 provided by Simon Hugentobler.

If both do well with it and this becomes known, the third car, on which work has not yet n ikcht b begun, should also soon find an interested party. For the time being, even just two of these racing cars are an enormous enrichment for Swiss racing.
