It is no longer Patrick Flammer, but Mathias Schläppi who will be at the wheel of the Suzuki Swift Evo in Interlaken this year.

Around 280 drivers have registered for the Swiss Slalom Championship opener on April 6 at the Interlaken airfield. More than 120 will already be racing for SM points. In addition, there are around 160 in the LOC and Cup classes, including 40 from the Suzuki Swiss Racing Cup alone.

Schläppi in E1 Suzuki, Zwahlen now in Group IS
The most striking change of vehicle in the touring cars concerns Mathias Schläppi. The man from Meiringen now brings the Suzuki Swift Evo 2000, driven for three years by Patrick Flammer, to the start in the E1 to 2000 group. The strongest class opponents will be Christian Darani in the Fiat X1/9, Daniel Kammer in the Honda Civic, Reto Steiner in the Ford Escort RS and Ruedi Fuhrer in the Honda Civic F20.

Christoph Zahlen switches from Group E1 to IS with his Opel Kadett C to take some pressure off himself. He also has a long friendship with the IS drivers.

Eugster in the Ligier sports car, Zürcher in the Tatuus-Abarth
Several names stand out among the racing cars. Lukas Eugster is lucky to have found a generous sponsor through mediation, who provides him with a Ligier-Honda from Group CN. The modern and top-prepared two-liter sports car comes from Horag Hotz Racing. The 2017 Junior Mountain Vice Champion previously drove an older Formula Renault.

Thomas Zürcher now takes his seat in the cockpit of a Tatuus F4. The original engine will soon be replaced by a special racing engine.

We have already announced Denis Wolf's move to a Formula Renault Caparo. Now his long-time rival from the Clio Classic Cup is following suit.

Thomas Zürcher purchased a Tatuus Formula 4 from Jenzer. In Interlaken, the original 1400cc turbo engine from Abarth is still in it. With smaller displacement and significantly more power, the five-time Renault club champion will compete in the two-liter class at the latest hillclimb races.

We will report specifically on the projects of Eugster and Zürcher.

As usual: Egli against Maurer
The day's victory at the first Swiss race in 2019 will be decided between Philip Egli (now with a shorter ratio Hewland gearbox in his Dallara) and Marcel Maurer in the Tatuus-Renault Midland. As reported, Daniel Mauerhofer will start in Interlaken for the first time with the newly acquired Dallara-Nissan V6 in the race car class up to three liters, but will hardly have a say in the overall victory due to lack of practice.

We will discuss the starting position in the 2019 slalom championship before the first race.
