Seewen: No weather for normal racing tires

WINS WITH WINTER AND RALLYEPNEUS As in the previous year, Noa Schmid in the Subaru BRZ won the Seewen slalom, which is part of the IKSM. The wintry conditions required a clever choice of tires. The race in Seewen, which is part of the Intercantonal Slalom Championship (IKSM), well organized by the AMC Schwyz, was already tricky enough with 59 gates in close succession. Now came last Sunday [...]

The race in Seewen, part of the Intercantonal Slalom Championship (IKSM), well organized by AMC Schwyz, was tricky enough anyway with 59 gates in close succession. Now, last Sunday, the onset of winter was added to the mix.

After an initial flurry of snow and driving in slush, the 1,400-meter track on the premises of Senn Transporte & Senn Schwyz AG in Seewen almost dried out in the course of the day. Winter or rally tires on the slalom vehicles were the closer choice for quite a few specialists than semislicks or even, where permitted, treadless racing tires.

With rally tires and driving skills to the day's victory
This was also the case for Noa Schmid, who fitted his Subaru BRZ Turbo with rally tires, as he had done at the Frauenfeld slalom. The driver from Kriens skillfully and spectacularly heaved the 300-hp coupé around the pylons and celebrated the well-deserved day's victory in the dry, just like last year.

Noa Schmid: "The power, as well as the lack of all-wheel drive and the weight on the drive axle, are not very decisive on this tight course. With Turbo I was only about two seconds faster a year ago than without in 2017. Thanks to the higher torque at lower engine speeds, I now don't have to keep shifting down into first gear."

The onboard shot from Schmid's Subaru shows the steering wheel acrobatics involved in the drive to the day's victory:

Another amazing performance by Dino Wintsch
Although he had to admit defeat to Schmid, as in 2018, the performance of Dino Wintsch in the Lotus Exige 430 Cup is once again remarkable. Although the 38th Autoslalom Seewen did not count as part of the Lotus V6 Cup Suisse, the Zurich native nevertheless left the otherwise mandatory Yokohama semislicks on the production sports car. In the addition of the two fastest times from three runs, Wintsch thus achieved second place in the L4 over three liters and in the day's classification, with a gap of 4.73 seconds. Schmid's fastest run time was 1'28.18, while Wintsch's was 1'30.09.

In the course of the day, the track almost dried out. Nevertheless, Dino Wintsch was unable to do anything against Schmid on semislicks on the Lotus Ewige.

Urs Kupper in the four-wheel drive Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 MR was slightly faster than the Lotus champion in the third run with 1'29.64, but touched two pylons. So he slipped to third overall with the times from the first and second run.

Daniel beats Simeon Schneider With winter tires
The victory in Group L1 went to Daniel Schneider in the Suzuki Swift Sport. With winter tires instead of semislicks on the front axle, he left his namesake Simeon Schneider, who had already been on the podium twice in the Suzuki Swift Racing Cup, behind by almost 4.5 seconds, and the other four Suzuki colleagues by almost 14 seconds and more.

May or January? It was snowing in Seewen in the morning. Daniel Schneider therefore mounted winter tires - and won the Suzuki class.

As fastest in the L2 category, Michael Wyss in the Renault Clio 2 Sport managed to leave his brand colleague Reto Mösching just behind by 1.1 seconds.

The first place of the multiple IKSM day winner Sepp Schönbächler in the Opel Kadett C GT/E 2.4 in the L3 category was clearer. However, Dominik Breiter with his Kadett E GSi from the L4 up to two liters was almost five seconds faster, making him the best driver with a front-wheel drive car as the overall fourth of the day.

Dominik Breiter circled the pylons in his Opel Kadett E as the fastest front-wheel drive car.
