Porsche: This is how Stuttgart starts Formula E 🎥

GENERATION THREE The new Formula E cars from Porsche represent a technological milestone. The Gen3 race cars will be used in the electric racing series from the 2023 season with significantly increased performance.

The most striking feature of the new generation of the Porsche 99X Electric is the massive increase in drive power by 100 kW to up to 350 kW in Quali mode. Also striking is the energy recovery of up to 600 kW - 2.4 times higher than in the second generation. These increased power values lead to a substantial rise in acceleration and maximum speed.

The new generation of Porsche's Formula E car has been improved in almost all components.

Numerous optimizations for 2023
Porsche has built the Gen3 version of the 99X Electric at its development center in Weissach. The new vehicle, which will compete in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in 2023, comes with numerous optimizations. After each racing season, the battery cells will be reused. More than 40 percent of the driving energy in the race is to be recovered through regenerative braking.

Drive trains new front and rear
The output of the Gen3 vehicles increases to 350 kW (476 hp). The energy efficiency of the powertrain is around 95 percent. For the first time, there is one powertrain at the front and one at the rear of the vehicle - an innovation for formula cars. As a result, the new vehicles have the potential for a significantly higher maximum speed, because the higher performance figures go hand in hand with a shorter wheelbase, a narrower track and a reduction in the overall weight of the vehicles by around 50 kilograms to 850 kilograms. This has an impact on the performance and agility of the cars in racing.

Natural rubber and recycled fibers
As braking energy can now also be recuperated via the front axle, it was possible to reduce the size of the battery, which also benefits the vehicle weight. The exterior design has also been revised and is visually evident with new aerodynamic elements for modified airflow and also in the omission of the previous wheel covers.

Recycled carbon fibers from previous-generation vehicles are used to build the vehicle, and the tire maker says natural rubber and recycled fibers make up more than a quarter of the new Gen3 tires.
