Motorsport: Busy at the Swiss

This weekend, Swiss car racers will be fighting for points and trophies on three fronts: at the Reitnau hill climb, the Chamblon slalom and the Rallye del Ticino. All three events will also attract many spectators. The crowd is always impressive at the one-day event on Sunday in Reitnau, where around 200 drivers will start. As was the case two [...]

Last year's winner in Ticino: Italian Felice Re won last year with Mara Bariani on his Ford Focus WRC and is again the favorite for overall victory.

The crowd is always impressive at the one-day event on Sunday in Reitnau, where around 200 drivers will start. As in Hemberg two weeks ago, Eric Berguerand in the Lola-Ford and Joël Volluz in the Osella will decide the day's victory between themselves. The fight between the two Mitsubishi drivers Ronnie Bratschi and Roger Schnellmann in the touring cars is likely to be as close as in Toggenburg. In the meantime, Ronnie Bratschi has contested another FIA E1 Cup hillclimb race in Slovenia, where he finished second. Meanwhile Reto Meisel (Mercedes SLK340) and Marcel Steiner (LobArt-Mugen) hope for their first finish with the new cars. In the supporting program, some of Switzerland's best drift drivers will provide spectacle.

The clash of dates with Reitnau means that only around 80 national drivers plus the LOC drivers from the Trofeo Abarth Slalom, the OPC Challenge and the Suzuki Grand Prix will be at the start in Chamblon. However, all the contenders for top rankings in the championship will be present. The duel between Philip Egli (Dallara F3) and Marcel Maurer (Formula Renault Midland) will continue on the Waffenplatz above Yverdon.

Drifting spectacle in Reitnau: During the breaks in the race, cross-drivers like Franz Hunkeler in the 750-hp Lexus IS 250 leave a lot of rubber on the asphalt.

Short and crisp rally in Ticino
Although the Rally Ronde in Ticino is the shortest on the SM calendar, it is the best-staffed alongside the finale in Valais. The reason for this is the numerous Italian teams with attractive cars from the WRC, R5 and S2000 categories. These do not count towards the SM, which Sébastien Carron in the Peugeot 207 S2000 is leading unbeaten so far, but are eligible for the overall victory. The entire rally, which starts and finishes in Lugano, will take place on Saturday on the Valcolla and Isone stages, each of which will be driven three times.
