Yannick Mettler and Miklas Born drove several good TCR races together in 2020. Now they continue in the GT3 category.

During test drives with a Lamborghini Huracán at the Autodromo Vallelunga last fall, Miklas Born proved with amazing lap times that he can control a GT3 sports car.

So far, the 18-year-old from Basel has been driving a VW Golf GTi TCR with Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing. In 2020, he captured all possible titles in the 24H Series with the Zurich-based team and finished second at the 24 Hours of Dubai a month ago.

Mettler as a stirrup holder
This does not necessarily mean that the TCR chapter is closed. However, Born is now focusing on the GT World Challenge. He will contest the world's most important GT3 endurance championship with the SPS-Performance team in a Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Yannick Mettler, who knows the German team well from racing in the 2019 Michelin Le Mans Cup, put in a good word. Since Born's transition from karting to motor racing, the experienced Lucerne native has also been his coach and mentor. With him, he climbed the TCR podium several times in 2020.

Thanks to all for trust
According to Mettler, there were negotiations with various teams, but in the end the aspects with and at SPS prevailed. For the young Swiss, this is a dream come true.

Miklas Born: "I am incredibly happy about this opportunity and am grateful that such a professional and successful team like SPS has placed its trust in me for my first GT3 season. And then right away in the GT World Challenge! I really did not expect this. At this point, I would also like to say a big thank you to all my sponsors as well as my management MISSION:PRO, which is strongly committed to me and has opened this door for me!"

The car will compete for the Silver Cup in the Silver class and, of course, for top positions in the overall classification. Who Born's partners will be has not yet been fixed. It is quite possible that Yannick Mettler will be one.
