Karting: Following in the footsteps of the Le Mans winners

While the Swiss factory drivers successfully competed for victory in Le Mans, the smallest representatives of motorsport fought for points and podium places in the Swiss Kart Championship sponsored by autobau in Mirecourt. The men were again among themselves on the KZ2 podium (from left): André Reinhard, Loic Vindice and Nicolas Rohrbasser.

Le Mans heroes Neel Jani, Marcel Fässler and Sébastien Buemi also earned their first spurs in Swiss karting. Like the big 24-hour race, their potential successors raced in France last weekend. With its varied and demanding layout, the well-known kart track in Mirecourt placed high demands on the drivers.

In the top class of KZ2 karts (6 gears, around 50 hp), 17-year-old Loic Vindice (Praga) dominated the qualification, the two heats and the final almost at will after a perfect start. Second-placed André Reinhard (Tony Kart) was able to keep Nicolas Rohrbasser (Kosmic) just as clearly at bay. Isabelle von Lerber, who had taken the SKM lead with her first win in Lignières, finished in a good 6th place but dropped back to 3rd overall. After three of six runs, Loic Vindice now leads with 151 points ahead of André Reinhard (146) and Isabelle von Lerber and Paul Hökfelt, who are tied on points.

Fabio Leimer takes over top spot in the standings with victory
In the Iame X30 Challenge, Hicham Mazou won both heats, but shortly after Norick Lehner ousted him from the lead in the final, the previous SM leader retired. Norick Lehner held the lead until halfway through the race before he made a small mistake and Alessandro Felber squeezed past. After that, Norick Felber successfully fended off Lehner's attacks until the finish. Third place went to Patrick Näscher. In the SKM, Alessandro Felber, Norick Lehner and Hicham Mazou are separated by only three points. In the X30 Juniors, Savio Moccia was in a class of his own and is now the clear leader. Elliott Shaw (2nd) and Julian Kuwabara-Wagg (3rd) fought for the place of honor.

After changing the engine and the gear ratio of his kart, Fabio Leimer only managed to beat Samuel Weibel in the final in the OC Seniors. The former GP2 driver thus also takes the lead in the standings ahead of Samuel Weibel. In the final race of the Super Mini, SKM leader Alessio Fagone prevailed in a great three-way battle against Samir Ben and Shannon Lugassy.
