Ducati: Racing technology for 214 hp Panigale V4

NEW DRIVE The two-cylinder in Ducati's top model is history. The Panigale V4 superbike now features a powerful four-cylinder heart with 214 hp and race-proven GP technology. Its predecessor, the 1299 Panigale, was no slouch either with 205 hp. But the barely visible new powertrain also makes a tidy improvement in torque, especially between 7000 and 10000 rpm [...]

Panigale
At 195 kilos and 214 hp, the Panigale V4 S is as fast as an arrow on the race track. The four-cylinder with 1103 cubic capacity is hidden under a successful red fairing.
Panigale
The Panigale V4 S relies on many assistance systems. Its little sister 959 delights with pleasantly controllable V2 power. Both models offer pure riding fun.

The predecessor 1299 Panigale was also no child of sadness with 205 hp. But the barely visible new powertrain also makes a big difference in torque, especially between 7,000 and 10,000 rpm, and pushes hard up to over 14,000 rpm. Controlled by assistance systems, some of them new like the helpers for powerslides and brake drifts, the red arrow is the ultimate ground rocket on the track. Steam to the hilt in every situation. In extreme cases, the S version with adaptive Öhlins suspension, Marchesini wheels and 226-horsepower racing kit is only a few seconds slower per lap than a thoroughbred MotoGP racer.

Great handling and easy to control
Nevertheless, thanks to new geometry with centralized masses, the V4 is more manageable and easier to control. Between the curves, the slip control is particularly helpful, enabling safe acceleration despite slight slippage. Thanks to Wheelie Control, however, it always remains well controllable. The road, sport and racetrack driving modes are preconfigured, but can be individually modified. Overall, the V4 appears more balanced than the 1299. Prices start at 23,990 francs, with S from 29,990 francs.

Short wheelbase and plenty of slope clearance
Those who want to enjoy the two-cylinder on a Ducati superbike in the future can continue to reach for the 959 Panigale, which we rode for comparison. With 150 hp at 10,500 rpm and 200 kilograms ready to ride, the 1000 is sufficiently motorized in most situations, with a powerful pull and high revving, easy to handle thanks to its short wheelbase, but not nervous, and plenty of lean angle freedom. From 17,990 francs the friendly alternative.
