Classic: Duel of the Formula 2 drivers in Arosa

In Arosa, the final preparations for the 12th Classic Car hill climb are in full swing. In sporting terms, the focus will be on the duel for the day's victory between Roger Moser and Thomas Amweg in Formula 2 racing cars. It is an event like no other in Switzerland, or even in Europe. They will meet on equal terms this weekend: local Roger Moser (left) won in 2014 and 2015, Thomas Amweg wants to bring the trophy for the day's victory to Ammerswil.

It is an event like no other in Switzerland, not even in Europe. The main village in an idyllic, touristically important area and its only access road will be closed periodically for a weekend so that cars can be driven fast and loud. The entire population of Arosa is behind it, and those who do not want to sit in a grandstand in the "Monaco of the Alps" may watch the spectacle at the track and in the paddock free of charge.

For the majority of the 170 participants, this is a sporty ride with old and youngtimers, where driving is based on uniformity. 25 drivers and two British women with their Morgan Threewheelers have registered in the Competition class. The aim here is to see who can cover the 7.8-kilometer course with its 76 curves from Langwies to Arosa the fastest. On Friday, all fields are allowed to complete two practice runs, on Saturday and Sunday two race runs each.

Unique ambiance: After more than seven winding kilometers, the participants arrive at the finish line at the "Monaco of the Alps" in Arosa.

Track knowledge versus racing experience
For two years now, Roger Moser from Appenzell, who lives in Arosa and works in Chur, has been unbeaten in his Martini BMW F2. Next weekend he will have a new equal opponent. Thomas Amweg, who otherwise drives a sports car on the circuit and a Formula 3 race car in hill climbs, will be provided with Hans Peter's Ralt RT1-BMW F2 by Phimmoracing. "I know every meter, but Thomas has much more routine with race cars," points out 47-year-old Roger Moser. "I've already been to Arosa for skiing, but I have to memorize the course with videos and in training. My goal would be already to get the day's victory," says the 16 years younger challenger. We and certainly all the spectators are curious to see what will tip the scales.
