Guide: How to have more fun with your car

PLEASE NOTE Sometimes it's little tips that make a difference in the condition of a vehicle in the long run. AGVS garagists are the first port of call for car-related advice and assistance. They also tell you what to avoid.

Driving tips guide
To protect the tires, never drive over the edge of the sidewalk at an acute angle.

It's often the little things that can make a considerable difference in everyday car life. That's why AGVS garagists are happy to help with car-related questions. Here are some tips on what to avoid in order to maintain the fun of your car.

Do not cross sidewalks pointedly

In addition to too low air pressure, damage caused by a lack of care is also an enemy of tires. Damage to the substructure of the tire is particularly treacherous - for example, a so-called shock fracture in the tire fabric caused by crossing the sidewalk at an acute angle. Therefore, one should drive over sidewalks particularly carefully and as straight as possible.

Wipe always with water

Compared to other glass panes, windshields are more susceptible to scratches. Over the years, invisible micro-scratches can accumulate until the view is impaired, for example in backlighting. For this reason, it is important to prevent the windshield wipers from sanding dust and dirt particles across the windshield. The wiper wash function should therefore be activated more frequently the first time the wipers are operated and in dirty weather.

Refrain from continuous braking

Weak continuous braking wears down brake pads more quickly. This leads to more fine dust, dirtier wheels and, in the worst case, heat damage to the brake disc. When driving downhill, you should therefore brake harder and then release the pedal again. With hybrid and electric vehicles, it is important to make optimum use of recuperation, for which a forward-looking driving style is helpful.

Charge electric cars slowly

Like the battery of a smartphone, the battery of an electric car also has a comfort zone. Charging at between 20 and 80 percent capacity tends to extend the battery's life. If you want to charge the battery to 100 percent, you should do this at the wallbox at home rather than at the more stressful fast charger. If you are fast-charging while traveling, it is better to do so only to 80 percent instead of 100 percent. If possible, deep discharges to below 15 percent should also be avoided.
