When Zurich entrepreneur Marc Schürmann discovered his love of classic sports cars, he started to build up a small collection. However, in order to get hold of the right cars, he had to make very careful contact with a great many people, which was very time-consuming and required diplomatic skills. That's when the idea was born to offer this as a service to others who had the money, but not the know-how, time and nerves to do so. When Marc met Fredy Barth at a circuit race and told him about the idea, he was immediately enthusiastic, because Fredy had also already thought about how he could professionalize his own international network.
Rare vehicle on offer
"We don't want to simply be a platform for cars, but to find the right car for everyone," Marc explains. "Thanks to Fredy's network, we have vehicles on offer that are hardly or not yet on the market." Fredy hosts 60 events a year, including 16 track days. That's where he meets a lot of personalities - including suppliers as well as seekers. "I'm often asked which race car would be most suitable for me. Or wealthy individuals ask me which car they should invest in."
Five percent of the purchase price
For successful mediation, customers pay around five percent of the purchase price "plus half of the amount reduced by our negotiation," adds Schürmann. Experience has shown that with negotiating skills, their customers don't really end up paying more. However, using Race and Road Cars is only worthwhile for vehicles worth 100,000 francs or more.
