At its world premiere in December, Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, announced the new generation as the "first van on the Internet of Things". This primarily refers to the web-based Mercedes Pro Connect factory solution, which is free of charge in its basic version and pre-installed in every vehicle. This enables even very small companies to manage orders and communicate with the driver from any PC, tablet or smartphone.

Superstructures according to needs and budget
Panel van, tourer, platform truck, chassis, bus or chassis-cab (powerhead) as body type, three drive concepts - for the first time also with front-wheel drive as an option - cab design, body lengths, tonnages and load compartment heights: These parameters alone result in more than 1700 different versions - significantly more than its predecessor. The front-wheel drive is aimed primarily at parcel service providers, the fastest-growing segment. The powerhead variant was added to the range primarily with a view to the likewise growing motorhome segment. An electric variant with a range of up to 150 kilometers will follow from 2019.

New drive configurations up to 190 hp
The most powerful diesel engine is a three-liter V6 - the only six-cylinder in the large van segment. It produces 190 hp and 440 Nm of torque. The smaller four-cylinder generates a choice of 114, 143 or 163 hp from 2.1 liters of displacement in rear-wheel drive. In front-wheel drive, the range even extends to 177 hp, with the most powerful version available exclusively for motorhomes.

Many new safety and assistance systems
The generation change sees the introduction of a whole range of optional safety and assistance systems that were previously reserved for passenger cars at Mercedes. These include the radar-based Distance Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Attention Assist. Prices start at 38,233 francs. Orders can be placed now.
