Volvo: Every model as a plug-in hybrid

PROGRESSIVE Volvo is taking the next step towards an electrified future. The Swedish premium manufacturer has unveiled further improved and newly developed electrified powertrains. On the road to the electrified future: In the future, the new mild hybrids will also be identifiable by a nomenclature (B) on the tailgate.

In the future, at least one plug-in hybrid drive will be offered in every Volvo model, including, for example, the optimized T8 Twin Engine engines. In addition, mild hybrids will enter the Volvo model range in the coming months.

The large SUVs Volvo XC90 and XC60 with diesel engines will be the first to be launched, followed at a later date by the gasoline variant.

Nomenclature on the tailgate
The mild hybrid models use an advanced braking energy recovery system that adds an additional electrified drive option to the internal combustion engines of the Drive-E family. The system converts kinetic energy into electrical energy during braking and releases it again during acceleration.

In the future, the new mild hybrids will also be recognizable on the tailgate by a new nomenclature (B). The new powertrain with brake-by-wire system offers the driver fuel savings and CO2 reduction under real driving conditions.

Larger production capacities
In line with its electrification strategy and based on strong demand, the Volvo Car Group has also expanded production capacity: 25 percent of total production may in future be accounted for by plug-in hybrid vehicles with twin engines.

In addition, the company expects the new "B" drives to gradually become standard. This will bring Volvo closer to its goal of electrifying all vehicles by the middle of the next decade.
