Ford: The Mustang goes all out 🎥

FASTEST ROAD MODEL Employees at Ford Performance in Michigan set out two years ago to develop a Mustang that could rival the best European sports cars.

To make it to a lap time on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in less than seven minutes, Ford has equipped the Mustang GTD - the fastest street-legal variant - with a more than 800-hp 5.2-liter V8 turbocharged engine. The designation comes from the North American IMSA series, where the GT3 racing counterpart will compete in the GTD class (GT Daytona) next year.

Balanced weight

A carbon-fiber propshaft is responsible for power transmission. It connects the engine to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission on the rear axle, thus ensuring a weight balance between the front and rear axles. This is complemented by a chassis with adaptive springs that lowers the car by 40 millimeters in race track use.

The wide body with the powerful rear wing and the hydraulically adjustable aerodynamic elements at the front and rear are also primarily made of carbon, as are the drive shafts and brake discs. In terms of track width, the Mustang GTD exceeds the standard model by almost ten centimeters.

Comparison with European brands

Ford CEO Jim Farley: "The new Mustang shows what Ford Motor Company can do and what our team is capable of every day. I'm happy to compete with it on the racetrack against the other carmaker bosses with their fastest road-going sports car." Oliver Blume (Porsche), Michael Schiebe (AMG), Stephan Winkelmann (Lamborghini), Benedetto Vigna (Ferrari) or Mate Rimac (Bugatti) will have heard.

The hand-built Mustang GTD is scheduled to be launched on the market in a limited edition at the end of 2024, beginning of 2025. In the USA, Ford expects a sales price starting at $300,000.
