Ford: 1000 kilometers with plug-in hybrid Kuga

SUSTAINABLE The Ford Kuga is now also available as a plug-in hybrid. The model combines a 2.5-liter Duratec petrol engine with a battery-powered electric motor and has a system output of 190 hp. Kuga
The Duratec petrol engine of the new Kuga from Ford produces 152 hp, the electric motor 92 kW (125 hp).

After the mild hybrid and the plug-in hybrid, the plug-in hybrid is the third electrified variant in the new Kuga model family. The synthesis of petrol engine and 1.1 kWh battery enables a total range of up to 1000 kilometers.

The all-wheel-drive Kuga plug-in hybrid accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and has a top speed of 196 km/h (factory figures).

More dynamic performance with electric thrust
The plug-in hybrid version is characterized by a smooth, linear response to accelerator pedal commands and, depending on the driving situation and power requirement, fully automatic switching between purely electric driving, mixed drive and propulsion by the combustion engine.

The thrust of the electric motor ensures even more dynamic driving performance, increases fuel efficiency or even drives the Kuga plug-in hybrid purely electrically over short distances
and therefore locally emission-free.

Purely electric drive for short distances
During the development of the third Kuga generation, Ford also focused on the integration of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The new Kuga can drive off in electric mode and cover shorter distances purely electrically.

The Kuga plug-in hybrid charges its battery while driving - regeneratively by braking and coasting. The battery is liquid-cooled, so no additional fan is required for temperature management of the energy storage system.

This contributes to acoustic comfort on board and also enables a more compact arrangement of the 60 battery cells, which has a positive effect on the space available. This means plenty of headroom for the driver and front passenger as well as a maximum luggage compartment volume of 1481 liters.

Trailer load of up to 1750 kilograms
Last but not least, the high performance of the electric drivetrain makes a decisive contribution to the fact that the Kuga plug-in hybrid offers a maximum towing capacity of up to 1750 kilograms (braked, eight percent gradient).

CVT transmission without rubber band effect
The latest generation of Ford's continuously variable CVT transmission is specially designed for coupling with the 2.5-liter Duratec petrol engine. The transmission simulates gear changes and thus creates a natural driving experience.

The system automatically adjusts the engine speed to the driving speed, thereby reducing the rubber band effect that is otherwise associated with conventional CVT transmissions.

Choice of six equipment versions
Ford offers the Kuga plug-in hybrid in six equipment versions: Cool & Connect, Titanium, Titanium X, ST Line, ST Line X and Vignale.

Common to all is the Ford navigation system including the Ford SYNC 3 communication and entertainment system with AppLink and eight-inch (20.3 centimeter) touchscreen, DAB/DAB+ digital radio reception, steering wheel remote control, Bluetooth hands-free system and audio streaming and SMS read-aloud function.

Prices start at 42,000 francs.
