Audi: This is the new A1 Sportback

STRONG RISE In 2010, Audi debuted a completely new model series with the A1. Now the second generation of the successful compact is being launched. And it really is something to behold. The A1 Sportback has grown considerably in length by 56 millimeters and now measures 4.03 meters. At the same time, the width of 1.74 meters is almost [...]

Sportback
Under the edge of the hood of the new Audi A1 Sportback are three shallow slots - a reminiscence of the Sport quattro, the brand's rally icon from 1984. A certainly successful reminder.
Sportback
The Audi A1 Sportback is fit for the digital future. Even in its basic version, an instrument cluster with a high-resolution 10.25-inch display and a multifunction steering wheel are on board as standard.

The A1 Sportback has grown significantly in length by 56 millimeters and now measures 4.03 meters. At the same time, the width has remained virtually the same at 1.74 meters. The height of the new generation is only 1.41 meters - including the antenna it is 1.43 meters.

With its wide track and shorter overhangs, its appearance is sporty and taut. The wide, deeply positioned single-frame grille and the indicated side air intakes dominate the striking front.

An edition model is available for the Swiss market launch
The edition model based on the S line equipment line, which is available from the market launch, is particularly individual. Large 18-inch wheels - finished in bronze, white or black depending on the exterior paint - set strong accents. The foiled Audi rings on the side of the vehicle also come in matching rim color.

The LED headlights and LED taillights are darkened in the style of the legendary Audi Sport quattro. The Audi rings in the single frame and the rear badging are black.

The room concept now offers more space and comfort
The new A1 Sportback offers improved space - and thus a plus in comfort for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers. Despite the compact exterior dimensions and sporty roofline, adults in the rear enjoy plenty of headroom and legroom.

The luggage compartment volume has increased by 65 liters: 335 liters fit in the normal state, and with the rear backrest folded down the roof-high capacity is 1090 liters. At 67 centimeters, the loading sill is pleasantly low.

Driver assistance systems as offered in the luxury class
The driver assistance systems in the Audi A1 Sportback also come from the luxury class. They keep the compact at the right distance from the vehicle in front, make it easier for the driver to stay in lane, or support him when parking.

The standard lane departure warning helps the driver keep the car in the lane from 65 km/h upwards. The speed limiter, also standard, reliably prevents the A1 Sportback from exceeding a set maximum speed.

Another component of the basic equipment is Audi pre sense front. The radar sensor detects critical situations involving other vehicles, crossing pedestrians or cyclists in front of the car - even in poor visibility conditions such as fog.

Engines from 95 to 200 hp on offer at sales launch
Powerful engines are primarily responsible for the driving pleasure. TFSI units with a power range from 95 hp to 200 hp are available. Turbocharging, direct injection and particulate filters are standard.

Initially, three engines will be available: the 30 TFSI, a three-cylinder with 1.0 liter displacement and 116 hp output, the 150 hp 1.5 liter four-cylinder with the cylinder on demand (COD) efficiency system as the 35 TFSI, and the 40 TFSI with 200 hp and 320 Nm of torque.

Shortly thereafter, the 25 TFSI with 95 hp follows as the base engine. Audi provides a manual transmission or the S tronic dual-clutch transmission with seven gears for all engine options.

The new Audi A1 Sportback will be available to order from summer 2018 and will launch on the Swiss market in fall 2018. Prices are not yet known at present.
