With around 250 entries, the Oberhallau hill climb club has reached the capacity limit, which proves how popular the event is in the Klettgau region of Schaffhausen. As nice weather is also announced, ideal external conditions will prevail.

Steiner: "My track record will not survive".
After the flood of records at last weekend's European Championship race, new best times are also likely to be set in some classes on the exactly 3000-meter hillclimb track. Since 2012, Marcel Steiner has held the absolute track record in 1'08.49, set at that time with the Osella FA30. Although he subsequently also marked further best times on other tracks with the LobArt-Mugen, this is his last remaining record.

Marcel Steiner: "I don't expect him to survive Sunday. We'll see whether Eric or I succeed in setting a new record. After I did so well in Les Rangiers, where unfortunately there was no comparison with Berguerand, I will certainly leave no stone unturned."

A year ago, Eric Berguerand only started one race due to electronics problems after coming within 18 hundredths of Steiner's record in practice. In 2019, his Lola-Cosworth is running perfectly. Will he set the new record in Oberhallau? (Photos: Peter Wyss)

Volluz and Amweg missing
A difficult undertaking, especially since the Valais native set new records in his Lola FA99-Cosworth in dry conditions in all the hillclimb races so far this year, except in the rain at Anzère. If Joël Volluz made his comeback with the Osella FA30 in Oberhallau last year, he will be absent this weekend. The man from Valais wants to solve his gearbox problems before he starts again. The day's victory will therefore be decided between Berguerand and Steiner.

Third place overall will probably be decided within the family. Robin Faustini continues to drive the Reynard 97D of his father Simon Hugentobler, with which he got along very well right away. And his dad set a time in Les Rangiers that was almost as fast as his junior's on the first start in the second race run with the Osella-Cosworth PA30 taken over from Cyrille Frantz.

If you are wondering why Thomas Amweg is not on the start list with his Lola F3000, here is the answer: His brother Manuel, who is involved in long distance racing (VLN), is getting married on Saturday - we congratulate the young bride and groom!

Simon Hugentobler again acquired an attractive Osella PA30 and immediately got going with it in Les Rangiers.

Maurer and Egli back on the mountain
In the two-liter race cars, Marcel Maurer returns to action almost two and a half months after his engine failure in Hemberg. His favorite slalom opponent Philip Egli is also back in the mix after Anzère. They will undoubtedly give Joël Grand, the Swiss class winner at Les Rangiers, and Christian Balmer a run for their money in their Tatuus-Honda FMs.

In the sports cars, Peter Amann will unfortunately be absent, as spare parts for his Osella PA2000 could not be obtained in time. Rüdiger Bernhard, the father of the endurance world champion and Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard, who sporadically competes in hillclimb races in his spare time with a Porsche GT3 from his own team, has also withdrawn. Unfortunately, not in Switzerland after all.

Giant fields for the touring cars
Even without the German team, the touring car fields are a blast. For many years, the KW-Berg-Cup has made a stop in Oberhallau, in 2019 with around 40 cars. Among them the unique Opel Kadett C V8 GT/R of Holger Hovemann.

Welcome to Switzerland! The Renault Clio BTCC of champion André Wiebe is one of the fast cars on the KW-Berg-Cup.

So together with the IS and E1 groups, there are around 180 (!) special touring cars and GT vehicles, of which around 60 alone are from the class up to two liters. The fastest two-liter driver from all categories, which local hero Jürg Ochsner would like to be in the Opel Kadett, can therefore have some pride.

Wüthrich in the Ianniello Lancia
For the first time, according to the start list, all the horsepower monsters are also fully assembled at a Swiss hill climb in 2019. In addition to Bratschi, Schnellmann and Kessler with their Mitsubishi, Romeo Nüssli in Ford Escort Cosworth is once again one of them in Oberhallau.

In the class up to 3.5 liters, Simon Wüthrich is back for the first time since the accident in Reitnau. However, not yet with the VW Golf Turbo, but with a Lancia Delta S4 provided by Bruno Ianniello in return for electronic auxiliary work on his cars. For Wüthrich - with Ianniello as a yardstick - an interesting experience.

Bruno Ianniello is driving to top places in his E1 class again in 2019. In Oberhallau, Simon Wüthrich drives the red Lancia Delta S4 from the fleet of the five-time mountain champion.

Christoph Zwahlen is ready for a comeback in the Porsche
However, Christoph Zwahlen is making the most highly regarded comeback. Exactly six years since his serious accident with an Opel Kadett in Massongex, the man from Thurgau is returning as a driver to a mountain race. But now, as reported, with a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. The trial gallop at the Gargellen hillclimb in Vorarlberg went so well last weekend (third overall and touring car/GT overall winner behind two racing sports cars) that he almost couldn't believe it himself. We, like him, are excited.

Two days of action
A first indication will be provided by the practice runs on Saturday from 7.30 a.m. to around 6 p.m.. On Sunday, three race runs are scheduled within the same time window. The detailed schedule and the starting list can be found on the homepage.
