Second GT3 victory for Emil Frey Lexus Racing

The success story of the racing team from Safenwil continues. Just like four weeks ago in Portugal, Philipp Frommenwiler and Albert Costa won the first of two GT3 races for the GT Open with the Emil Frey Lexus Racing GT3 car on the Spa GP circuit. Good preparation pays off: Albert Costa immediately took the lead on the picturesque GP circuit in Belgium, which Philipp Frommenwiler held until the finish in the second half of the one-hour race.

While Nico Müller and Marcel Fässler were still on course for a podium finish at the Nürburgring 24 Hours after six hours of racing, Emil Frey Lexus Racing celebrated its second triumph in the International GT Open at the not-too-distant Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Here, too, GT3 sports cars settle the victories among themselves.

The foundation for the second success was laid by Albert Costa, who converted his pole position at the start into the lead. Despite several accidents in the field, the Spaniard was able to maintain the top position and hand over the Lexus RC F GT3 to Philipp Frommenwiler at the halfway point of the race. The 27-year-old from Thurgau completed a faultless stint and continuously extended his lead over BMW driver Victor Bouveng. After 28 laps of 7 km each, the driver from Kreuzlingen crossed the finish line with a lead of 14.3 seconds.

The eastern Swiss's joy after his second win of the season in this fiercely contested GT championship knew no bounds. "This is absolute madness, I'm over the moon. We knew we couldn't rest after the opening win in Estoril. The whole team kept working hard and now we hold our second trophy in our hands. Thanks to the entire Emil Frey Racing team for their super work."

Thanks to their victories in Portugal and Belgium, the Lexus drivers from the Safenwil team have replaced their German brand colleagues from Farnbacher Racing at the top of the standings. For the Lexus brand, this is already the third victory in the third race.

Third race, second victory: Team boss Lorenz Frey between his two drivers Philipp Frommenwiler and Albert Costa.

The second race of the GT Open at Spa-Francorchamps starts at 2.15 p.m. on Sunday. For Frommenwiler, things get serious as early as 10.10 a.m., when he has to negotiate the grid position in qualifying. All sessions can be followed via live timing and livestream on the official website.
