Europe's most competitive GT endurance series, known as the Blancpain Endurance Cup until 2019, is off to a delayed start to its season.

As in other sports, cancellations or postponements are now piling up due to the Corona virus, especially in Europe. Not unexpectedly, SRO as the organizer of the GT World Challenge (formerly Blancpain Series) has had to cancel or postpone the first endurance race from April 17 to 19 in Monza because of the precarious situation in northern Italy. By decree of March 10, all motorsport events in Italy have been canceled for the time being until April 3.

To ensure that the Endurance Cup continues to comprise five rounds, a race in Barcelona will be added to the calendar on the second weekend in October. Also affected by the Monza cancellation is the Formula Renault Eurocup, which will now also start in Spain, but a week earlier also as part of the DTM at Hockenheim.

More preparation time until the start of the season in England
The season will now start two weeks later on May 2/3 with two one-hour races for the Sprint Cup at Brands Hatch - provided the situation does not worsen in Great Britain as well and this entails appropriate safety precautions.

The teams, including Emil Frey Racing from Safenwil with its two Lamborghini Huracáns, can then stay right in England. The following weekend, Silverstone will be the first race for Endurance Cup points.

With the short teaser, the race at Brands Hatch, which is now also the season opener, is made palatable above all to British GT fans.

First races in France also postponed
SRO is also the organizer of the Championnat de France FFSA des Circuits and the Championnat de France FFSA GT. Due to the limitation of the number of visitors in France to a maximum of 1000 people, SRO has already postponed the Coupe des Pâques, the traditional Easter race weekend on the Nogaro circuit, from the second weekend in April to the second weekend in July. There is no question that other organizers will follow this example.
