24H Nürburgring: Fässler moves up to P3

PORSCHE DISQUALIFIED The second-placed Manthey Porsche at the Nürburgring 24-hour race is retrospectively disqualified. The Audi R8 with Marcel Fässler therefore moves up to third place. After a long lead and a late time penalty, the Manthey Porsche of Earl Bamber (NZ), Michael Christensen (DK), Kevin Estre (F) and Laurens Vanthoor (B) finished second. Now even the podium is out of their reach (Photos: ADAC Motorsport).

The routine post-race inspection of Manthey Racing's Porsche 911 GT3 R with starting number #911 revealed irregularities in the engine output. The 494 hp specified in the BoP (Balance of Performance) for testing on a chassis dynamometer (including 4 % tolerance) was exceeded.

A new test, which was scheduled by the stewards at the team's request during a hearing using a different measuring method, also failed to produce the values prescribed by the BoP. As a result, the Manthey Racing team was disqualified by the stewards in a written procedure. The organizer was instructed to draw up a new overall classification excluding the team.

Marcel Fässler's Audi is third
The following teams move up so that the order is now as follows:

  1. 1st place: Audi Sport Team Phoenix (with Pierre Kaffer, Frank Stippler, Frédéric Vervisch and Dries Vanthoor)
  2. 1st place: Mercedes-AMG Team Black Falcon (with Maxi Buhk, Hubert Haupt, Thomas Jäger and Luca Stolz)
  3. 1st place: Audi Sport Team Car Collection (Markus Winkelhock, Christopher Haase, Marcel Fässler and René Rast)

Is Manthey going to appeal?
Team Manthey Racing has the option of appealing against the decision of the stewards. In the written procedure of the sports commissioners, this appeal would have to be filed by mail 96 hours after receipt of the decision. In this case, the DMSB would likely schedule an appeal hearing in a few weeks. Until then, the result would remain subject to appeal.

Until the decision in a possible appeal hearing, the R8 LMS #14 from Audi Sport Team Car Collection is now third overall.
