Volkwagen: Bulli fun knows no bounds

EXCLUSIVE Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sets a stage for its partners with the T6.1 like no other carmaker. The majority converts the motorhome California, the Bulli, with its ten square meters of space as desired. A bargain are the VW campers for a long time no longer. VW campers are no longer a bargain. While VW's first own motorhome, the California, was still a bargain at the end of the 1980s for just 40,000 deutschmarks, more powerful drives and, above all, safety and comfort features have driven prices up.

Effortlessly, the California climbs to undreamed-of heights even without all-wheel drive. Today, you pay almost twice that amount, and not in deutschmarks, but in francs. However, at that time there was a four-cylinder diesel with a slim 70 hp in the California as a volume model, the gasoline engine came as a four-cylinder boxer to 112 hp. Today, gasoline engines are a marginal phenomenon, and the most powerful diesel engines can produce up to 200 hp.

Floor plans and desire and bold colors
The Köhler brand, among others, shows the wealth of variants of the extension. 16 different layouts are available for the T6, and the modular design allows customized solutions. The departure from imitation wood for furniture fronts and panelling is striking.

Köhler, for example, also tends to choose gray plastic surfaces and sets contrasting accents with strong colors. White is also very popular with customers at the interior design specialist Reimo. Bright colors create spaces that the VW bus furnishing specialist from Egelsbach near Frankfurt am Main even uses space for a separate toilet room in the T6.

The is open to the top, but at least creates a privacy screen for private business. The toilet is designed as a bank toilet, but this should not be associated with the business of a financial institution.

Extended frame and a double axle
The T6 becomes exotic with the chassis and drivetrain expert Terranger. The extended frame gets a double axle at the rear, which can also be driven if desired. The GRP cab comes from the supplier that also equips Bofrost's refrigerated vehicles; the interior is a matter of personal taste and budget.

The VW Amarok pick-up is also intended to be suitable for off-road use. ICC-Offroad fits it with an optional removable cab, which is extremely light thanks to a fold-out mechanism and has a particularly low center of gravity.

Electrically operated, the rear section swings out from its vertical position behind the rear and extends the living space by almost four square meters. The space gained is furnished with pullouts for the kitchen, bed and wardrobe, which slide from the front area to the rear on rails and rollers.

Closed living container for the Crafter
Variability is also the strength of an idea for the larger Crafter van that Plugvan has devised. Here, the closed living container is loaded on rollers through the rear opening of the van and lashed down, then the two beds and the kitchen can be used without restriction.

The cube can also be inhabited without the Crafter, in which case it stands self-sufficiently on four solid supports. The loading process takes only a few minutes and can be managed by a single person. The advantage: freed of the roughly 300-kilogram load, the panel van can be used as a vehicle for excursions beyond the Stell or campsite.

Large washroom with shower and toilet
The HRZ Schwabengarage is also dedicated to the Crafter and presents an unusual interior concept. The mobile achieves family suitability with two bunk beds arranged laterally in the rear (for the children), the parents slumber in the loft bed under the roof. A large washroom with shower and toilet are also part of the Schwabenmobil.

Cooking and heating with electric energy
The wealth of ideas of the Bulli builders knows hardly any bounds. All of them practical people and convinced campers, they are constantly working on and testing new solutions, all of which have just one goal. They are designed to perfectly match the vans to individual needs and vacation and travel requirements.

Many of them now do without gas on board and cook with electric energy or heat with the vehicle fuel. When the first ones will also be able to drive electrically will become clear after the T6 model change. Smaller and lighter batteries are on the horizon, which will significantly increase the range and payload and pave the way for electric vehicles in parking spaces.
