Open day: On Sunday, October 16, 2016, the autobau Erlebniswelt invites you to the first tour of the polygon. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can experience the exhibition expansion. Admission is free of charge.

Background: In 1902, the Polygon building in Romanshorn was inaugurated. After a few months of construction, a pioneering feat was accomplished: a gigantic steel tank with a diameter of 20 meters and a capacity of 2.8 million liters. Alcohol was stored first, followed by fire-fighting water. After the Swiss Alcohol Board withdrew from Romanshorn, rapeseed oil was stored in the steel tank for several years. In January 2016, the conversion work for the new use started.

Partner: The polygon with the steel tank is unique in Switzerland. As with the conversion of the autobau Erlebniswelt, the cooperation between the monument preservation department of the Canton of Thurgau and the owner worked constructively and smoothly.

Legendary racing cars in the motorsport collection
Through a newly created passageway, visitors enter a world of steel. In the midst of the unique and historic tank, selected vehicles from the autobau Erlebniswelt collection will be on display in the future. On three floors, there is space above all for vehicles from the world of racing.

One of the main topics is Peter Sauber. His name is closely associated with Swiss racing. The Sauber C1 was the first vehicle with which Peter Sauber competed in 1970. The team from Hinwil started in Formula 1 with the Sauber C12 in 1993. In addition to the legendary Le Mans bolides, such as the Sauber Mercedes C9, various Sauber Formula 1 cars are on display.
