All corresponding engine types contributed to the pleasing growth in alternative drive systems. Hybrid systems combining electric and petrol or diesel are enjoying strong growth in popularity and increased by a combined 78% in July.
The Schweizer family likes electric cars
Even greater, but at a lower absolute level, was the growth in electric cars (up 225%), as well as vehicles that can run on natural gas (up 25%) and hydrogen (ten registrations, none in the same month last year). The cumulative alternative market share after seven months is 10.8%. At the same time in 2018, the statistics recorded 6.2%.
Growth compared to the previous year
The importers' association auto-schweiz anticipates slight year-on-year growth in the market for new passenger cars for the remainder of the year.
The second half of 2018 was characterized by delivery difficulties in the course of the changeover to new emission standards based on WLTP. The annual target of 308,000 new registrations, which would correspond to an increase of around three percent compared to the previous year, should therefore be achievable.
