Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid - modern appearance

The Korean carmaker Hyundai, which also owns Kia, is committed to being independent, both economically and technologically. Hyundai develops components such as engines, transmissions and alternative drives itself. The latter were not an issue for Europe for a long time, but at the latest since the Ioniq was launched at the end of 2016, the solutions on offer are among those to be taken seriously.

The Ioniq is a compact hatchback at 4.47 m in length, with modern coupe lines, full five seats and a respectable trunk (550 to 1505 liters). The powertrain consists of a direct-injected 1.6-liter four-cylinder that produces 105 hp (77 kW) and works in tandem with a 32-kW electric motor. This results in a system output of 104 kW (141 hp) and 265 Nm. Hyundai uses a 6-speed dual clutch transmission.

First impressions are promising. Hyundai states 3.4 l/100 km (CO2 79 g/km) as standard consumption, an acceleration of 10.8 s for 0-100 km/h and 185 km/h top speed. The mixed driving in the city area, but also overpass and highway certify it a realistic 4.2 l/100 km. At the same time, the car pleases with smooth, quick gear changes and good everyday comfort.

Over the coming months, we will be reporting regularly online and in the print edition of AutoSprintCH about the car, which is on offer from 30,000 francs. Stay tuned.
