Natural gas as a fuel: CNG has a future

CNG
Christian Bach explains the background in an interview on the new portal www.cng-mobility.ch.

"We don't have an energy problem, we have a CO2 problem," says Christian Bach. The independent expert works at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research Empa on reducing the impact of road vehicles on the outside air and the climate.
In a detailed interview on the portal www.cng-mobility.ch, the expert talks about the advantages and disadvantages of the individual drive types - and helps to break down prejudices and put stereotypes into perspective.

Greening of individual transport
The new portal aims to contribute to the greening of individual transportation and reduce the existing knowledge deficits about compressed natural gas (CNG). On average, a car powered by CNG, or natural gas, emits 20 percent less CO2 than a vehicle powered by gasoline or diesel. And one that runs on biogas is virtually CO2-neutral on the road.

Natural gas is the cleanest drive concept
In various studies, researchers concluded: "Powered by renewable energy, the gas vehicle is the cleanest solution. Ecologically, it is on par with an electric vehicle charged with renewable electricity."
CNG mobility thus contributes to achieving the goals of the Energy Strategy 2050 because, according to Empa, it has a large CO2 reduction potential at comparatively lower costs and its climate and environmental impact is among the lowest, especially when real consumption values are taken into account.

Common goal of the Swiss gas industry
Pascal Lenzin, national coordinator for natural gas and biogas mobility: "The portal, launched by the regional companies of the Swiss gas industry and supported by a growing alliance, thus aims to give a voice to a drive technology that is still underestimated, but at the same time aims to ensure that the individual drive types work together. The goal must be to save CO2 on as broad a basis as possible. It is time to jointly drive forward the greening of transport."
