Car Professions
More than 1000 apprenticeship graduates were surveyed by the AGVS about their apprenticeship period and their professional future.

Whether craftsmanship, technical challenges or customer contact: Automotive professions are not only versatile, but also fascinating.

That this is the case is underscored by the 2020 apprentice survey conducted by the Swiss Auto Industry Association. More than 1,000 trainees were asked about their apprenticeship and their professional future.

The conclusion is clear: 89 percent of the participants said they were glad they had chosen their training and would recommend it to others.

Trial apprenticeship has greatest influence
As the survey shows, the trial apprenticeship (74.2%) is still the criterion with the greatest influence when it comes to deciding on a profession. This is followed by discussions with parents, friends and other family members.

Slightly more than in previous years, career advertising is seen on the Internet (59%, +1.6%), on social media (44.5%, +2.2%), and at career fairs (41.7%, +3.9%).

Portraits of various basic education

Oliver Maeder, education officer at the AGVS: "Due to the Corona-related cancellation of various career fairs, information and demonstrations, it was therefore the right decision to launch replacement formats."

These include online taster sessions, multimedia portraits of graduates of various basic training programs, and presentation videos on autoberufe.ch or social media.

Fascination with the automobile in the foreground
The fascination with automobiles (74.1%) particularly appealed to respondents about the profession, as did the broad technical training (49%), the versatility (48.3%) and the training as a springboard for a career in the automotive industry (19.9%).

This fascination remains until the end of the training. This is shown by the survey conducted on car professions.ch  More than two-thirds of the apprenticeship graduates stated that they were pursuing further training.
