At the Zurich Car Show, Honda is presenting the Clarity Fuel Cell alongside the new Jazz compact car at the special hydrogen mobility show.

According to the supplier, this offers space for five people and a range of up to 650 kilometers. During development, Honda set itself the goal of overcoming design compromises. Another objective was to build a fuel cell car that would prove itself both in everyday use and on long-distance journeys, as is the case with conventional touring sedans.

Compactly housed
To this end, the fuel cell stack (still installed in the center tunnel in the predecessor model) was made significantly more compact and could be positioned in the engine compartment, which allows for more generous space in the interior. The space gained in the underbody area creates comfortable seating for five people inside the vehicle - a world first for passenger cars with fuel cell drive.

High-strength structure
The innovations also include the body structure, in which an excellent formable steel of the Lambda type is used for the first time in the world. This is another reason why the self-supporting body weighs around 15 percent less than a comparable gasoline-powered vehicle. According to internal test data, the new Honda Clarity Fuel Cell has the longest maximum range among zero-emission vehicles: approx. 650 km (403 miles) at NEDC conditions.

Test phase underway
The arrival of the new Clarity Fuel Cell in Europe is a key part of Honda's 'Electric Vision', which was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and aims to have two-thirds of cars sold in Europe powered by electricity by 2025. The vehicle is currently being tested with a limited number of vehicles as part of the HyFIVE program in the UK and Denmark.
