The weather forecast promises sunshine, the affiche best slalom sport: The spectators can truly look forward to the car racing days Frauenfeld organized for the 19th time by the ACS Thurgau.

As was the case three years ago, they mark the start of the Swiss Slalom Championship season. The fact that it starts with the most popular event in the eight-race 2018 calendar motivates the racers all the more.

For most of them, the race in Frauenfeld is a first assessment of their performance. Some of them have already tested themselves last weekend at the slalom test days of the Equipe Bernoise at the airfield Ambri.

Here is a video summary from Haukymedia.ch:

Martin Bürki aims for sixth slalom title
In Frauenfeld, Saturday is reserved for the near-series vehicles from the so-called LOC classes, which also include the Opel (OPC Challenge) and Abarth (Trofeo Abarth Slalom) one-make cups as well as the private Lotus V6 Cup Suisse and the Swiss Corvette Club International. In total, more than 170 drivers will be at work on Saturday.

On Sunday, for the first time this year, SM points will be at stake. With 125 entries, there are fewer national riders than before, but the elite is almost completely assembled.

It is led by Martin Bürki, who is aiming for a sixth slalom title in his E1 Polo, last year's runner-up Albin Mächler in the E1 BMW M2 and last year's winner Philip Egli in the Dallara F3.

Vehicle change of Philip Egli, comeback of Christoph Zwahlen
Incidentally, Egli will no longer be competing with the F394 Opel, but with his replacement F393 chassis (see video above) and a more powerful two-liter engine. With the winning car from 2017, Egli graces the cover of the program booklet for the upcoming event. The Zurich native's main opponent will be Marcel Maurer in the Tatuus-Renault Midland.

Many eyes will be on Christoph Zwahlen in particular. Almost five years after his serious accident at the Massongex hill climb in 2013, the local hero from Pfyn is making his comeback. The first test run with the newly built Opel Kadett at Slalom Röthis in Vorarlberg went well, as already reported.

Close to the action: Spectators enjoy the best view of the race track.

Looking forward to the Memorial hill climb Steckborn-Eichhölzli
For variety on the circuit in the infield, which is easily visible to the spectators from all areas, about a dozen historic racing vehicles will provide in between. They can otherwise be admired in the special pit lane and are intended to whet the public's appetite for the Memorial Mountain Race Steckborn-Eichhölzli on September 22/23.

Spectators arriving by car are requested to use the highway exit Frauenfeld-Ost. The entrance fees (from 16 years) are CHF 10 on Saturday, CHF 15 on Sunday and CHF 20 for the weekend.

Food and drink will be available at various stands in the spectator areas and at the Kanönli restaurant.
