Insurances
Taking out liability coverage is a must in Switzerland for owners of a motorcycle.

Motorcycle insurance is similar to car insurance. Taking out liability coverage is a must for motorcycle owners. Partial or comprehensive coverage, however, are usually optional.

If you ride a motorcycle, you can also include additional modules in your policy, such as mobility coverage or parking damage coverage. But what protection do motorcyclists really need? Comparis clarifies.

Partial hull cover in the event of third party damage
Liability insurance covers damage caused by the rider to third parties with his motorcycle. Partial or fully comprehensive insurance, on the other hand, covers damage to the rider's own motorcycle.

The partial cover assumes damage to the stationary vehicle caused by external factors. This includes theft, natural hazards such as hail, falling rocks or floods, fire, acts of vandalism or marten bites. In addition, partial casco also covers damage caused by collisions with wild animals.

Hull covers for newer motorcycles
It is worth taking out comprehensive cover for newer motorcycles. Partial cover for up to seven years and fully comprehensive cover for up to four years after first being put on the market.

Whether it still makes sense to take out this insurance coverage thereafter depends primarily on individual budget considerations. Comprehensive insurance is mandatory for leased vehicles.

Insurance of personal belongings
The personal effects module covers personal items carried along in the event of theft or damage in connection with a hull event. Cash, credit cards, securities and jewelry are excluded. Electronic devices, motorcycle clothing and professional paraphernalia are also often not covered.

Accidental damage to helmet and motorcycle clothing is covered by the insurance if the motorcycle clothing module is included.
