Together with the Sauber Karting Team, the Sauber Academy completes the Hinwil-based company's development program. The first youngsters in the 2020 racing season, which is due to start soon, are Théo Pourchaire, Dexter Patterson, Petr Ptacek and Emerson Fittipaldi Junior.
Three Europeans and one South American
Théo Pourchaire comes from France and is the German Formula 4 champion. He will race in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2020.
Scotsman Dexter Patterson comes from the Sauber Karting Team and makes his debut in the soon-to-be-launched Italian Formula 4 in motor racing.
Czech Petr Ptacek continues in the Formula Renault Eurocup, where he claimed a number of podiums in 2019.
Emerson Fittipaldi Jr. is the eponymous son of the 1972 and 1974 Formula 1 World Champion. The Brazilian drives for the Sauber Karting Team in the OK Junior class.
The Sauber Academy runs under the watchful eye of team boss and CEO Frédéric Vasseur and sports director Beat Zehnder. The ultimate goal is to introduce the youngsters to Formula 1.
Training in all areas
The training program includes mental and physical fitness training, technical work with the team engineers, media coaching and training in the simulator. The aim is to prepare them for challenges that await complete racing drivers at higher levels in their professional careers.
If the health situation permits, training camps will also be held in the off-season. In any case, the four graduates of this newly launched academy will have all the resources of Sauber Motorsport at their disposal.
