His 50th win goes down in history, Kevin Harvick does a few donuts with his Ford Mustang.

The last major international race was the prematurely cancelled Rally Mexico on the second weekend in March. Now the Americans continued their season in the Nascar Cup, the most popular touring car series overseas, which began in the spring, with a one-day event without practice or qualifying on Sunday in Darlington.

Limited staff, no spectators
The starting places of the 40 regular pilots were drawn by lot. Those not wearing a helmet had to don a face mask to reduce the risk of infection. Team members (15 per car plus driver) were limited to the bare minimum. Before entering Darlington Raceway, a non-contact fever test was mandatory for all. In the raceway, the prescribed safety distance had to be maintained whenever possible.

There have never been empty grandstands at a Nascar race. Only the so-called spotters, who report on race situations to their drivers via radio, were allowed to sit on them at a proper distance (photos and videos: Nascar/Darlington Raceway).

American fans could only follow the racing action live at home on TV on Fox Sports or on the radio. In Europe, the pay TV channel broadcasts Motorvision.tv all Nascar races always live.

Memorable 50th victory for the table leader
The winner of the first major ghost race in the history of motorsports was Kevin Harvick in a Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang. For him, it was the 50th career victory and the first in this extraordinary season, with which he also extended his championship lead.

Wearing a mask into Victory Lane. Kevin Harvick will never forget this moment.

Harvick, who started sixth, led 159 of the 293 laps on the approximately 2.2-kilometer oval track. The places of honor in the 400-mile race, which was slowed by the usual accidents and caution periods, went to Chevrolet drivers Alex Bowman, Kurt Busch and Chase Elliott.

The highlights of the race are under this Link  to see.

The next race will be held again on Wednesday at Darlington, this time in the evening under floodlights. The following two races will be held on May 24 and 27 at Charlotte Speedway, the stronghold of the Nascar teams and home of Nascar headquarters.

And this is how the winner of the first big ghost race looks without a mouth guard. He also leads the standings with his Ford Mustang.

Put to the test
Additional races are then scheduled through the weekend of June 21 at Bristol, Atlanta, Martinsville, Miami-Homestead and Talladega. All of these tracks are accessible by road from Charlotte, eliminating the need for air travel.

If the safety concept of these closed-to-the-public races proves successful, nothing will change. Other racing series, including MotoGP and Formula 1, will follow a similar procedure in Europe from July.

New everyday life in motorsport. No one is allowed to work without a mask.
