Motorsport: Swiss duel on Corsica

Swiss teams in the World Rally Championship are rare. This week, however, two Renault-sponsored teams from French-speaking Switzerland will be competing against each other in the Tour de Corse - and in the same class. New challenge for Cédric Althaus and Jessica Bayard: After their early title win in the Clio R3T Alps Trophy, the Swiss Renault team now treats itself to a start in the World Championship.

Michaël Burri won the 2015 Clio R3T Alps Trophy with his French co Anderson Levratti and subsequently the European Trophy. This secured the Bernjurassier a program of six starts with a factory Renault Clio R3T in the World Rally Championship, financed by Renault Switzerland, Renault Sport and Michelin Motorsport.

In Portugal, Poland and Germany, Michaël Burri always saw the chequered flag, but did not manage more than two seventh places and one eighth place in the WRC3 class. Michaël Burri: "I know curvy and mountainous roads from Swiss rallies, so I'm now looking forward to the tracks in Corsica. We have prepared well physically to be ready for the special stages, which can be up to 54 kilometers long. In addition, I was able to put in a test day after the Rally Germany, where I wasn't so happy with myself."

Fourth WRC3 start in the Renault Clio R3T: Michaël Burri has not yet made any big leaps. In Corsica, he wants to benefit from his experience on asphalt tracks.

Good memories of the Rally Monte Carlo 2015
The second Swiss WRC3 team is made up of Cédric Althaus and Jessica Bayard, who will have an interesting gauge from their own country in the form of Michaël Burri in an identical vehicle. Cédric Althaus has already been confirmed as the overall winner in the 2016 Clio R3T Alps Trophy ahead of the Swiss finale on October 21 and 22 in Valais and now ventures onto the challenging parquet.

Cédric Althaus knows what it's like at WRC rounds from his stint at the 2015 Rally Monte Carlo, where he finished brilliantly in second place in the R2 class. He then won the Junior WRC with his female co-driver in a Peugeot 208 R2. Their first WRC outing with the 240-hp Renault Clio R3T is made possible by private sponsors, the Swiss importer and the family-owned Althaus Racing Team.
