Handshake to a good 2019: Marylin Niederhauser and Walter Lechner Jr.

Like many of her colleagues, Marylin Niederhauser fell through the grid for the new W Series women's racing car championship in January for mysterious reasons. So what now?

Staying in the GT4 Central European Series, in which she finished runner-up in 2018, or switching to the European Cup was too costly for her. So the 23-year-old from Bern looked for a new challenge and found it.

One-make cup with the new 718 Cayman
Marylin is taking part in the newly launched Porsche Sprint Challenge Central Europe. The new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport Competition model (Type 982) will be driven, with the previous Cayman GT4 CS (Type 981) also being used on a transitional basis. The organizer is the Lechner Racing team from Thalgau, Austria, which has been very successful in various Carrera one-make cups for years. Lechner prepares the cars centrally and runs them on the five race weekends for all customers.

This video shows what the new 718 Cayman GT4 sounds and looks like on the test track:

Lots of driving time in five races in the East
The events take place on Friday and Saturday. With Slovakia Ring, Salzburgring, Most (CZ), Poznan (PL) and Hungaroring, most of them take place in Eastern Europe.

After training and qualifying, the format provides for two sprint races and one endurance race. Those who ride alone, as Marylin Niederhauser will be doing, will have around 450 minutes or 800 kilometers to ride.

That was not the only decisive factor for the Swiss woman.

Marylin Niederhauser: "Because they are independent events, a lot is done for the riders' guests and sponsors. They are offered more than elsewhere. It's also nice for my partners, for whom I will now have more time on a race weekend."

Cooperation in promotion
As a racing driver and model, Marylin Niederhauser is an attractive ambassador for Lechner Racing, run by company founder Walter Lechner's sons Robert and Walter Jr. The project is planned for the long term and could lead to further engagements for both sides.

Marylin Niederhauser: "I'm looking forward to this collaboration. I'm happy to help market this series and make it more popular."

She will sit in a new 718 Cayman GT4 for the first time at the test day on April 6.
