The Lucerne native, who lives in Hergiswil, entered the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2019 with Team Hendriks Motorsport from the Netherlands. As a rookie, Giorgio Maggi immediately took second place in the overall EuroNASCAR 2 standings.

Since 2020, the 23-year-old Swiss has been competing in the PRO championship for the top drivers in the European NASCAR circuit. So far in his career, Maggi has contested 27 NWES races and celebrated a total of three victories.

Rendez-vous with the greatest
The trip to the USA marks the next important step in the career of the racing driver from the canton of Nidwalden. Maggi will be piloting a 700-horsepower Xfinity car for the first time at the GP and IMSA circuit of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Cup and IndyCar races will also be held on the same weekend at the famous circuit in the United States of America, which is why he will get the chance to meet many American motorsport icons.

A NASCAR car in the Swiss national colors - another thing that has never happened before.

Hard to believe
The Xfinity race will take place on Saturday, August 14, at 10 p.m. CEST. When the starting flag drops, Maggi will be the first Swiss to race at this level in a NASCAR national series in the USA.

The US NASCAR rookie from Switzerland can hardly believe his luck.

Giorgio Maggi: "It's still really difficult to believe because it seems so surreal. I first came into contact with NASCAR two years ago, and I honestly had no idea about this kind of motorsport. Now I'm going to be right in the middle of it. I'm really looking forward to it, but I have to admit I'm also a little nervous. I'm thrilled to be the first Swiss to compete in a NASCAR national championship in the U.S."

Maggi hopes to not only stand out visually with the Toyota Supra, but also to leave some opponents behind.

Full program
Toine Hezemans, Dutch motorsport veteran and head of Team Hezeberg, is delighted with him.

Toine Hezemans: "I am very pleased that Giorgio will be starting alongside my son Loris in Indianapolis. He has learned a lot in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship and was runner-up in 2019. He is very mature for his age and has a lot of talent to be successful in the U.S. as well."

Maggi now has a tight schedule on his agenda: Just two weeks after his Xfinity Series debut, he will travel to Most in the Czech Republic to once again chase points for Hendriks Motorsports in the EuroNASCAR PRO Championship. He currently sits in eighth intermediate place.

After the detour to the USA, Giorgio Maggi #18 continues in the European series.
