Geneva 2018: Nissan shows new Formula E
HINGUCKER Visitors to the Geneva Motor Show (March 8 to 18) should not just focus their attention on the new products on sale at the Nissan stand. The first new-generation Formula E racing car, with which Nissan will be entering the electric racing series in the 2018/19 season, will be on display on the steep wall next to the escalator. Nissan has already won the first race. [...]

Nissan has already won the first race. While the FIA is showing a neutral "FIA Formula E Gen 2" racing car at its stand on the Palexpo upper floor, Nissan is already presenting it in the upcoming factory colors.
Nissan will take Renault's place at the end of the current season, making it the first Japanese manufacturer in FIA Formula E and the first with a presentable second-generation model for the fifth racing season.
The big innovation is that there is no need to change cars, because all competitors have to complete the entire race distance with one car, i.e. one battery charge.
The futuristic-looking electric racers will also be more powerful (250 kW/+ 50 kW) and faster (up to 280 km/h) than the current generation of vehicles. And of course, the new chassis will also feature the "Halo" cockpit protection, as all modern racing cars will soon do.

Like a supersonic bird flying low
The color scheme was designed by the Nissan Global Design Team at Nissan Motor Co. in Japan.
Alfonso Albaisa, Senior Vice President Global Design: "At first glance, the Formula E car for the fifth season looked like a supersonic electric bird in low-level flight to our design team. So we used this initial reaction as a starting point to find a shape that overcomes resistance and gravity. Formula E racing cars accelerate explosively, but are practically silent. The Doppler effect came to mind: the combination of a sonic pulse with the unleashed power of an ultrasonic bang inspired the design of this EV racer."
While the color scheme of the Nissan Formula E will be presented to the general public for the first time in Geneva, development work on the vehicle technology has been underway for months.
Cooperation with alliance partner Renault
Nissan is working with alliance partner Renault to leverage existing know-how and developments, maximize synergies and increase competitiveness.
Details of the Nissan drivers and other technical and marketing partners for the eagerly anticipated debut will be announced later in the year.
